Jyhad Online : computer troubles and inputs for improvement

So I've tried the "official" Jyhad Online, and there are many things to be said before it actually is what we always dreamt of (sort of : I will always prefer to play with real players, but still...). So I thought we could start a constructive thread with all the ideas / inputs / comments of people who actually tested it. I think the "it's still unstable and I'm getting disconnected all the time" part is not worth mentionning more than once, because that's exactly why it's still free and being worked upon. So it's done and said, let's move on. First I'll mention I use a 19" flat screen with 1280/1024 resolution (as that might have some consequences on the way I see the interface) - I have been experiencing some serious troubles with my computer (screen freezing, video card issues etc) since I've installed the last update, I had to remove the game and now it looks like my troubles are gone. I'm not sure it's in direct connection but as of now it sure looks that way. Did anyone experience the same thing ? - I always have to find a suitable place for the "commands" window (reactions / combat...), as its default position hides some other infos (namely the "stealth / intercept" window) - I know that the personnal chats have been excluded for cheating reasons (well, cheaters can still use msn if they're really big cheating morons) but it would be nice for players not involved in games to be able to talk privately. I guess that could be done ? I surely will have more things to say but can't recall right now. What about you fellow players ? -- Orpheus ----------------------- My story doesn't happen in the sound of the notes but in the silence between them. That is where the magic happens. As for the rest, am I the only one here interested in improving that platform ? [ quoted text not captured ]

Frankly? The honest truth? "System Requirements * Windows 2000, Windows XP " And thats pretty much the end of me trying it out. I'm sure its great though.

Any precise reason (except Bill Gates Hates Syndrome) for not wanting to go on XP ? > I'm sure its great though. Needs some improvement, but it's very nice, and will get better as the cards and the players keep flowing in. [ quoted text not captured ]

Well. I decided to reboot the only PC i have (which is generally being linuxy) and give this a try... Here's a brief synopsis of the experience so far: Download and Install, fine. Create account, fine. Run the thing and login... First bit of information: "You don't have the images for this game, download now?" Why NOT? What the hell is IN the install file, if not the files required for the game? If it had been images for the newest additions that were missing, OK, but this list included the pool counters, stealth markers - the very most basic elements aren't in the installation? I click OK to get the images (i'm obviously not getting any further by clicking "no"... "Shutting Down" -> What?!? I only just logged in! Begin downloading images. 20 minutes pass, I have to leave for work, images are about 30% done by the progress bar (I have a 2MBit connection, btw) Come back for lunch, try some more... Images are done now, no "all done, go back" button though, I have to close the dialog - confirmation of success is a good thing in UI... Re-login -> CRASH! restart, login -> CRASH! restart, login -> CRASH! restart, login -> "You don't have the images for this game" (what comes at this point to mind is unprintable!) do another download session, takes about 5 minutes this time. restart, login -> CRASH! restart, login... and thats where I've got to. Glad I'm not paying for this... (I'm a professional software engineer by trade, and have specifically worked in software quality assurance, and DAMN this is not a commercial release quality product, not by a LONG, LONG way)

@ the Mac user, I'm developing technology to play via the web, so don't give up hope :) Regarding any technical issues, the wisest course of action would have been (and still is!) to contact support at V:TES Online. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post about your techinical woes... There are many, many users who have run the software without issue, so It sounds like there is a condition on your PC that is not sitting well with the gatlingEngine. Post your issues on the forum or contact me at support a@t ccgworkshop d0t com and I'll be happy to help you figure out what's going on. Ed Mittelstedt CCG Workshop
