Is there any interest for a Create-A-Clan tournament at Dragon*Con this year? If so, I'll be happy to run one (non-sanctioned, of course). Create-A-Clan requires each player to invest some time up front developing a set of vampires from scratch for a new clan of vampires (replete with its own Hunting Ground), subject to some construction restrictions regarding Discplines, repeated capacities, etc. Concept courtesy of Ben Peal, who has had some success with the format before. I'll adapt the rules a bit, but for a proof-of-concept, see the tournament report (and links to the construction rules and resulting clans that were developed) here: http://www.darkwindrising.com/vampire/reports/2003/11.01.cac.asp Anyone who will be attending D*C 2004 and would participate in such an event, respond here or to my personal email, so that I can guage interest levels. Thanks. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Links to V:TES news, rules, cards, utilities, and tournament calendar: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/

However, you're certainly free to modify the rules as you see fit. As for the rest of you, quit asking me for permission to use these rules. You don't need my permission. Change 'em all you want. Use 'em all you want. :) > Anyone who will be attending D*C 2004 and would participate in such an > event, respond here or to my personal email, so that I can guage > interest levels. I know Dave McCarty's up for it, too, and there was a little bit of talk about it on the Ben Peal Fan Club yahoo group. - Ben Peal, Prince of Boston fu...@mindstorm.com

My biggest issue is getting there Dragon Con is right after my annual training so its always at a hectic time frame, but at least its not like that other big Con which occurs while I'm *away* each year. I was discussing with Ben about allowing 2-3 clan specific library cards for flavor, with preapproval from the judge. And I can't think of a better Judge to evaluate and rule on some created cards than LSJ. Raille

The details are here, on the German VTES discussion boards: http://www.vekn.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=678 Rules: http://www.vekn.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=740 Please note that the discussion and the rules are in German language only - but if enough foreign people are interested to participate, I would do an English translation of the rules. Change 'em all you want. Use > 'em all you want. :) Reading through these rules and bemoaning the lack of more obscure special abilities I was thinking maybe you could adjust the rules to be something like: A vampire may pay 1 point to get the basic ability of any minion card in a discipline they have superior in (Ally, equipment and location actions may not be used). If this card has a blood cost then the special ability is "This vampire may burn [blood cost] once per turn to ...". Specials such as intercept, stealth, bleed, strength bonues that have no blood cost count as permanent active. Any other abilities are only usable once per turn. For half a point more a vampire may take the _Superior_ ability of a card, usable only versus a specific sect. For one point (and costing an extra blood per turn than it would otherwise) a vampire could choose a disciplineless card. (Thereby allowing built in Bum's Rushes or out of discipline maneouvres or presses or things like that) This would mean that someone with superior protean could take "This vampire may burn one blood once per turn to gain +1 stealth" for 1 point or "This vampire may burn one blood once per turn to gain +2 stealth only usable when a Sabbat vampire is attempting to block" for 1.5 points or "This vampire may burn one blood to make his handstrikes aggravated for the remainder of the combat" whereas someone with superior obfuscate could have a straight +1 stealth for 1 point To make checking the vampires at the start easier poeople should include which card they are talking about. (Not printed on the vampire of course) This would keep abilities closely approximating the discipline breakdowns (like they normally do now) and provides a costing framework for a wide variety of different specials. Given that some things are probably more unbalancing than others (and reflecting your existing framework) you could add restrictions to certain types of abilities or modify a few things like "only 9+ caps may choose abilities that cost 2+ blood" and "only 6+ caps may choose abilities that cost 1+ blood" or "all stealth abilities cost +.5" or "all combat card based specials cost a minimum of 1 blood" (to avoid infinite S:CE from built in majesty vamps). The costing frameworks for normal cards exists so it shouldn't be too hard to use it as a basis for costing specials since there are two areas to use to balance things: a) points vampires pay for ability b) blood they pay to use it Using either this system or something similar... [ quoted text not captured ] OK. Sounds like we'll have at least five. Consider it run. I'll put up a set of card-building parameters ASAP (next week or two). [ quoted text not captured ]

making a tournament like this in europe can be interesting too. You will have, I am sure, clan different of the one made in US!!!

As you can see in an earlier post by Hardy Range, we are doing a Create a Clan Tournament in Europe, in Bochum, Germany, to be exact.. You can find details here: http://www.vekn.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=678 Rules: http://www.vekn.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=740 Unfortunately those pages are in german but if enough people from outside Germany are interested, they will be translated :) -- Holger Christiansen Domain of Bochum, Germany

>Unfortunately those pages are in german but if enough people from >outside Germany are interested, they will be translated :) I think I understand most of it (German is not one my fluent languages) But I have some Q's: *Das Ausstatten von Library Cards mit eigenen Bildern (passend zur Design-Idee des Decks) ist erlaubt. Die Original-Karte muss hinter dem Ausdruck mit dem neuen Artwork stecken und darf auf Wunsch von jedem Spieler eingesehen werden. *Proxy-Karten im eigentlichen Sinne sind nicht erlaubt. why is that? (If I understand correctly: you may remake cards with alternative images that better fit with the theme of your deck, but only if you put the original card behind it. And proxies are not allowed. ) For what reason is this rule in place? Just wondering, Jeroen

How > are you going to make a crypt with only two one-caps? I'll have you know that my last tournament deck used a crypt of average capacity 4.67, thank you. The notion that I would use such miniscule vampires in a create-a-clan format should not be believed until after I play such a tournament, with said crypt, gaining 4-6 VP on the day. That is an excellent lead-in to something I found missing from the current CaC rules: point guidelines for 1-caps and 11+caps. If the X-1 points rule applies to 1-caps, then a clan may only have one 1-cap, due to the discipline spread rule. So I'm looking at two 2-caps, two 3-caps, and a 1-cap. :) Also, the rules may as well give all 11+caps a default("free") +1 bleed.

But to prevent people from Proxying e.g. 10 DI's with pictures fitting the theme of their created clan, you must use the actual card behind your custom made. [ quoted text not captured ]

Holger Christiansen <silve...@arcor.de> wrote in message news:<p5jd509s5mv5b3c9q...@4ax.com>... [ quoted text not captured ] Correct. (Always wanted to say that. ;-) ) The rule has been made simply because some players asked if they would be allowed to design library cards with their own "flavour" artwork, and after some dicussion, I agreed. Since we do not want to use proxies per se, I added the rule that you would have to own enough copies of the _real_ card. [ quoted text not captured ]

It is available as an online version on our German discussion board, and as a downloadable MS Word document for easy reference (the link can be found within the post): http://www.vekn.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1012 We are planning this event to happen in Bochum, Germany, late in the summer this year, probably on August 22nd, but this has yet to be fixed.
