Me again, You can fortitude off the damage from Rutor's Hand at Super, can you Skin of Night it into normal damage? If this is the case then the 'can prevent' clause on Rutor's Hand means a more general 'may react to the damage'. I love the idea of wrapping your hand in a flak jacket and cutting it off, and saying 'Gee, that didnt hurt as much as I thought it would'. Thanks, James.

The 'can prevent' clause inspired the Rules Team to issue the errata that the damage (from superior Rutor's Hand) is treated as if from a strike in combat. This errata leads to the ability to play combat cards like Skin of Night. > I love the idea of wrapping > your hand in a flak jacket and cutting it off, and saying 'Gee, that > didnt hurt as much as I thought it would'. Yeah, the card combos can look pretty silly sometimes. -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@regency.wizards.com) Official VtES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. (*) - Subject to review by Rules Team

The only way to prevent this damage (that I know of) is using Blood Tears. Everything else is specific to combat and you are NOT in combat when you take this damage. Rutor's Hand superior has errata that the damage is treated as if from a strike in combat. So combat effects are allowed (Skin of Rock, Flak Jacket, superior Sideslip, etc.).
