Can you still play a Master: Trifle if you have played an Out of Turn Master since your last turn? I'm guessing not, but its one aspect I can't recall seeing an answer to. Thanx. ------------------------- Cambridge by Night. http://www.geocities.com/eryx_uk/Cambridge_by_night.html

Thanx. You certainly cannot play a trifle if you have no effect to give you an extra master phase action (eg Parthenon). I have a feeling LSJ has said that you don't get a master phase at all if you play an OOT -I can't find it though so i probably imagined it ;-) According to the rules though (Section 5): "By default, you receive only one master phase action, but some cards may change this amount. You may use a master phase action to play a master card, and some cards can give you alternate ways to use your master phase actions. If you've played an out-of-turn master card against this master phase, then you gain one fewer master phase actions than normal (see Master Cards, sec. 1.6.2). " This could be considered to clash with the earlier 1.6.2 part 3: "3. Out-of-turn: You may play an out-of-turn master card whenever appropriate during another player's turn. Doing so counts against your next master phase" I would interpret this as 1.6.2 having a missing "action" on the end as clarified by th elater section 5. You can only play a Trifle if you have a master phase action -ie if you have some effect that gives you an extra master phase action (against which you would not be able to play a second OOT).

Thanx. Correct, you cannot (unless you have another master phase action lying around after the one against which you played the MOoT card). You need a master phase action to play a master card, even a Trifling one. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. I believe it works this way: - you can only play OOT master if you have at least one 'normal' MPA, normal meaning that you will definetly still have it when it is your next master phase (parthenon can be burned, anson can be torporized, rumors of gehenna can be voted out etc.). - if you play OOT master you will have one less MPA during your next master phase. this means that if in the future WW would print a card that states: 'for the remainder of the game you have one extra MPA' without any conditions or burn option, you would be able to play 2 OOT masters between your turns. No. You cannot play a second against the same master phase. [1.6.2.3] [ quoted text not captured ]

Thanx for the replies all. :) I didn't think you could, but better to ask. [ quoted text not captured ]

[1.6.2.3] Similarly, you can't play more than one Trifle "against the same master phase", correct? (that is, once per turn, regardless of the number of MPAs you might have)

IANLSJ, but from the rulebook: 3. Out-of-turn: You may play an out-of-turn master card whenever appropriate during another player’s turn. Doing so counts against your next master phase (see Master Phase, sec. 5). You may not play a second out-of-turn card against the same master phase, you’ll have to wait until you square away the debt you owe on the first one. You cannot play an out-of-turn master card on your own turn. so unless this section gets re-written, even if you permanently get an additional master-phase-action, you'd still only be allowed to play one OOT between master phases. salem domain:canberra http://www.geocities.com/salem_christ.geo/vtes.htm

Yes. It's important to note Trifle's aren't really 'free' master cards. They require an MPA to play just like every other master card. The only diference is that once you have successfully played it, the trifle itself then gives you another MPA. [ quoted text not captured ]

I admit that mine might be a 'little bit' more frequent ;-) [ quoted text not captured ]
