The second leg of our sealed-deck Sabbat tournament takes place at Second Byte, Albert Road, OLD Portsmouth starting at about 6 on Wednesday the 10th of June. Deliberately, this clashes with the opening match of the [yawn!] World Cup. In this way, by coming along you not only show yourself to be a pretty cool and gothic sort of Dude/Dudette, but also you strike a blow against the Culture of Exploitative Stupidity so perfectly exemplified by the so-called "game" of professional soccer. Legbiter, Prince of Wessex and GENUINELY patriotic Scot who takes no responsibility whatsoever for the cringe-makingly embarassing antics of his heartier compatriots.

But I guess we'll have to adopt a 'Henry V-on-St.-Crispin-day' stance. Best luck for you! David Pontes 8[

I'd *best* not be hearing no dissing of the Perfect Unity and Harmony that is the World Cup, just because the graymeat Scots will wither and fall before the fiery blast that is the Brazilian team. Okay, like the US won't be crushed by Germany. But still. Soccer good. Anything that takes attention away from the cretinouspseudosport they call 'football' in this benighted land can only be a boon. But I digress. gomi obJyhad: any news from ryan whatsisname yet? -- Sure, she may be a nuisance for a while, but then you kill her and go on with your life. - hamblin at math wisc edu

It's true that soccer is less boring than American football - so is watching paint dry - but in this country the main effect of soccer is that after every big match LEGIONS Of malodorous drunks wander the streets in over-priced nylon shirts. If you are lucky, they've won and the only risk you take is being barfed on. Unfortunately about 50% of the time they've lost and then, should you have the bad taste to have a funny accent or be wearing the wrong colour of clothes or something, you may get knifed. This happened to a Russian student just along the coast from where i live, after England got ousted by Germany 4 years ago. PLAYING footie and cricket [and for all I know, basketball] is a different matter. I like playing games. It's the sitting around drinking beer, watching passively and getting whipped up into a xenophobic frenzy that i hate. Legbiter, Archon of Wessex [new and spiffy title for regional VEKN apparatchiks]. O, and good luck against the Germans. I know that Michael Beer [Prince of Dortmund] shares my hatred of professional sport so if it's important to you we wish your team all the luck in the world. Tell you what, if you come up against Scotland we'll give you TWO free goals, k?
