So we ran our Sword of Caine Post Release draft tournament last night, which worked very well. We played with a 4/4 split of 3rd/SoC using Internal Recursion rules (8/40/1xreshuffle), playing 2R+F, with 10 players. The final round was: -John Stevens; Some sort of fighty Nails/Shaggy Dog deck. -Peter Bakija; Some sort of Obf/Dom S+B deck (apparently, Obf and Dom are pretty good for bleeding...) -Dave Conroy; Some sort of !Gangrel/Tha fighty deck. -Steve Wampler; Some sort of !Brujah fighty deck. -Jon Darbro; Some sort of !Toreador toolboxy deck. Peter started out strong, ousting Dave pretty quickly with Titus Cammile and a Guarded Rubrics, after stealing his Bang Nahk. Steve then back rushed most of Peter's vampires into the edge of useless. Meanwhile, Jon was steadily bleeding into John, who was also putting a hole in Peter's vampires. Jon busts through John, ousting him. Peter can't really get a leg up after he as mangled, and Jon ousts him with the Guarded Rubrics he got by diablerizing Titus. Steve is already teetering on the edge, and after Jon is up 12 pool from two ousts, he just plows into Steve and kills him. End score is Jon Darbro 1/4 and The Winner! Which is appropriate, as the name of the tournament was totally his fault... S Word of Caine seems like a very solid set for drafting--lots of good bleed, stealth, and combat angles. I managed to pick up, like, 6 or 7 Empowering the Puppet King which is unsurprisingly good in combo with Veil the Legions. Steve had a pretty solid combat deck built around Enrage and Sanguinary Wind (which is a free additional strike at draftferior). Greg managed to build a deck out of 8 or so Touch of Pain, which, well, he didn't get any VPs with, but boy did he mess up his predator both games. Cadet was very solid offensive technology, as there were so many Truth in Inks around that bleeding with a non Black Hand vampire was generally not worth the effort. And we now have more Victor Pelletier than we know what to do with. You need any extras, Fred? :-) All in all, a very entertaining event. Thanks to Jevon for getting us cards and somewhere to play. Can I report this for rating purposes? We played with sanctioned rules, but I'm unsure if the SoC cards are or are not legal for sanctioned play in limited yet. Anyone? Cards are legal for limited the day they are released. If the tournament was sanctioned, then the results will count for ratings.

[ quoted text not captured ] It is true that playtesters are excluded, yes. That doesn't mean that the cards are not legal for limited play the day they are released, though.
