Hi. I'm so sad right now... I see a lot of talk about fansets to Vtes. And that would be great. I hope then that there would not come to often, and that they were not over powered. My suggestions would be this: There should be a "comity" of players that "approve" cards. This comity should be of different players from all over the world. Any player should be able to send in their new cards for approval. A comity of players to ban fancards, that was indeed to powerful. An easy to access webpage with clarifications, sets and cards to print out. I would love to be apart of such a "comity", but webpage and stuff is not my game. Regards Baaliprimogen

Other than the fact that nobody's paying him anymore, there is no reason LSJ couldn't still be part of card design and approval. Unless he signed some legal documents to the contrary.

I think the majour part of us will agree that LSJ has such legitimacy, but self-appointed designers should be avoided. The trouble is that as soon as their will be unofficial material, some players will ban them, others will use them, and it will be hard to keep an uniform game. There are already people playing with non- official rules (such as no-grouping) and I find it painful.

I suggest "power-up packs" for clan, concepts or disciplines that have fallen behind. 10-15 cards in a 90 day intervall would be nice. I have already designed such cards for the !Brujah. Form the committee, and I ´ll send them over!

[ quoted text not captured ] My thoughts are that there wouldn't need to be any fan-sets for quite a while. But when or if the time comes, that it would be released by an official player's org--making it an official set. With an official player's org also approving the official tournament rules, ratings, etc., it could then have legitimacy. So, as with any set (fan-based or printed by CCP), individual groups could ignore the "official" sets, banning, modifying, and so on, but at the cost of being excluded from the larger community. All of this presupposes that a player's org will be re-formed and that it will properly represent the community but I think this will happen before too long. -Robert

Doing so is likely to fracture the existing playerbase. And in the long run, it may pose an impediment for a future company that might be willing to pick up VTES.

[ quoted text not captured ] I'm not saying right now. Not even next year. But in 2012, how may players have stopped playing, unless something new happens?

Players got by for four years with a static catalog of 1137 cards (Oct 1996 - Oct 2000). Of course, back then there was no information about the cessation. And much less competition from online games.

[ quoted text not captured ] To make matters worse, the 4th set (Sabbat) sold out fast so getting Sabbat cards was really hard. I remember having 3 Patronages and an Art Scam made me powerful! I think there was only one Pack Tactics (or whatever one has that awesome picture of the Nos Antitribu riding around town in their stolen car) in the entire AA area! :)

BTW The original Sabbat didn't sell out fast and I do believe that it was reprinted at least once. Then again the local (retailer) suplly most probably varied like night & day... [ quoted text not captured ] I think "fanbased sets" are not the way to go. I believe that this would lead nowhere for the majority of players/playgroups as such sets are often tailored to suit the taste and style of playgroups or individual players. However, nothing stops a new player-run organization (like the VEKN was before WW took over) to ask LSJ to design a handful of card to round out G5/G6 and provide stuff for storyline events. Playtesting would be like always (as you get no printed material), and LSJ is known for good balancing. I wouldn't label such sets "fanbased", as it would be officially approved by <VEKN?> and therefore legal for tournamen play. That's the way to go, IMHO. LSJ, would you be willing to keep on designingn cards (for a player- run organization?) :)

[ quoted text not captured ] Yea, I'm not sure where you are, but we RARELY had access to Sabbat here in Michigan and certainly didn't see a reprint.

Well, there was a reprint. Distribution of V:TES in the WotC days was sometimes quite weird, though. Some bits of the world had stock in warehouses for years after other places of the world had dried up. I knew a store that was able to order new, sealed Dark Sovereigns boosters probably 8-10 years after it was released, from a reputable distributor. I'd ALMOST support a fan based set as long as Lasombra went back to being royal purple instead of chicken yellow. Almost

[ quoted text not captured ] Gotta agree with you there Dave. chris

Baaliprimogen

[ quoted text not captured ] Yeah. I agree that there shouldn't be a fanbased black hand sett or imbued for that matter. But maybe 60 cards to flesh out the game. As another note, maybe there should be a rule chance so that we can use gr 6 with gr 1

Whatever is done in the future it is important to consider the casual players and the beginners. Without them there will eventually not be any more competitive players and tournament turnouts will start to dwindle. Keeping the bar to enter the game low is more important than getting new toys for the most advanced players.
