Hi Everyone,
I tried looking on the google group for the answer to this question,
but either it's never been addressed and I feel like a dolt for asking
or my skills at navigating the news group is subpar. Either way here
it is...
Can you tap the DotS during a combat to increase your hand size?
My thought is yes, similar to The Barrens, tap X and do y.
Dreams of the Sphinx
Cardtype: Master
Cost: 1 pool
Unique master.
Put this card in play. Put a counter on this card each time you tap
it. When the third counter is added, burn this card. Tap this card to
get +2 hand size until the end of the current turn. Tap during your
untap phase to gain an additional pool if you have the Edge. Tap to
move a blood from the bank to a vampire in your uncontrolled region.
The Barrens
Cardtype: Master
Master: unique location.
Tap to discard a card from your hand (draw afterward).
Thanks,
Jeff

There's no restriction on when you can tap DotS to increase hand
size(or to move blood down), but your hand size goes down before the
end of the current turn. People frequently say to their predator, "I
may want to do something before the end of your turn, let me know when
you're finishing." That way they can make sure to use Dreams or
Barrens(or many other things) before it would untap anyway.

Correct.
(So "yes" is the short answer).

except you can't tap it after someone has played a card to hope to draw
into a card like DI to cancel the just-played card, right? The only
effects that can sneak into that window are wake-like effects?
(well, you can tap it, but if you draw the DI it won't be 'in time' to
cancel the just-played card)

wake-like and card-canceller effects, yup.
