A recent posting came up that has made me question the use of the Skin
of Steel card.
Claws of the Dead and Wolf Claws can be used like a combat modifier in
that you don't have to play the card until the strike resolution.
Is this true/official (yes/no?)
If this is the case, if you have multiple strikes through Celerity
does the Wolf Claws/Claws of the Dead get used for all of the strikes
that have happened in that round previous to the disclosure of the
card or only to the last of the multiple strikes in that round?
On a similar subject, the Skin of Steel card states for superior
Fortitude "Prevents all damage from opponent's strikes this round"
Can you play this one retrospectively, as just like Wolf Claws etc, it
is not a strike card. If you have to play it at the beginning of the round it's pretty naff if your opponent decides to dodge as their
strike and you've just spent one blood on Skin of Steel, however it is
excellent if at the end of a barrage of strikes in a single round you
can produce the card and stop it all for one blood.
OK, so which one is it?
One last question while I'm typing. Can you steal more blood from a
vampire with Taste of Vitae than he has at the time. ie If I shoot a
vampire on one blood for three damage and then play Taste of Vitae
does he lose one and I gain three. This might sound like a stupid
question but I'm sure I read it in another posting at some time.
Thanks,
Clarendon

Close. Tom Wylie's ruling was that the card could be played _after_ your
opponent has declared his or her strike, but had to be _before_ the Strike
Resolution Phase.

If you play the Claws cards and any of the strikes hit for damage (not prevented
by something) then the vampire is sent to torpor and combat ends immediately.
But, no the Claws are not used the way you are describing.

Skin of Steel, as with all damage prevention cards, are played during the Strike
Resolution Phase. Skin of Steel (superior) will prevent all current damage and
all other damage made by additional strikes. (There really would not be much of
a reason to play an additional strike at that point, now would there!) Skin of
Steel and other damage prevention cards can _never_ be used to prevent damage
that was inflicted in previous Strike Resolution Phases -- only the current and
future.

Reading the card, it states: "This vampire gains all the blood lost..." As the
vampire only loses 1 blood, only 1 is gained.

You wouldn't want it to. The first strike the vampire takes with Aggrivated
damage sends it to Torpor, and you'ld want it to take more blood off the
vampire than that. 3 strikes at 1-aggrivated would take 0 blood off the
vampire and send it to torpor after the first one, but 2 regular, followed by
1-agg. would take off 2 blood, THEN send the vampire to torpor.
What I'd like to know is, what happens to a Garau that takes 1-agg? He's
burned, right? He can't go to Torpor, since he's not Kindred...

Allies treat aggravated damage just like normal damage, so are burned only
when they lose their last life (blood) point.

12.3.1, Recruit Ally: "Aggravated damage is treated the same as regular
damage to an ally." So 1-agg just causes the Garou to lose 1 life.

Yes, I know that, however there are many ways to stop one point of damage
and several ways to turn aggravated damage into regular damage. There's
even a Vamp that can do it (for one point anyway).

Allies and retainers are not affected by aggravated damage as vampires
are. One point of aggravated counts as one point of normal for them.
You wouldn't be a "Vampire the Masquerade" player by any chance? as
Garou are affected more by aggravated damage in the role playing game.

you've made some false assumptions in your reply here...
wolf claws is part of your hand strike (combat modifier), so you really
are using it anyway, unless you have a weapon. also, the other vamp
doesn't go to torpor until the damage resolution stage. in other words,
in this case it takes 3 pts of agg damage. first one does no damage, the
others deal 2 pts. collectively. it would be advantagious to use a weapon
for the first two strikes (ex. machine gun/ .44...) because here you deal
more damage. then use the last strike to burn the vamp with the
aggrivated damage it can't heal (assuming you've dealt enough damage to
send it to torpor with the weapons).
as for the garou (or other allies) the rule book reads that allies take
agg damage as normal damage. that would have been a good idea though.
hope this helps,
