Now, I haven't been posting here for that long, but I've noticed that there seem to be a lot of new people posting here now that Sabbat War has had a chance to do it's thing. Are these all new players or are they mostly just people who don't post as often as say James Coupe or John Whelan and the like (which would explain their "newness" to me)?? I have been playing Jyhad since summer '95, but have only ever been on this NG since the release of Sabbat War because I was trying to find out what the entirely-black-card I got was. Due to my living in Aberdeen, and my status as a poorstudent, I've never been to a tournament, but my group has been playing regularly since before the name change. I'm an "old" player (not nearly as old as some, but), just new to the group. Somewhat sadly, it was mostly me just trying out the newsreader on my new mail program. Until now, I avoided the time suck that the newsgroup can be (I'm not really good at keeping my mouth shut =), and got lots of reports secondhand. So, I kind of knew what was going on and who was who, even though I didn't technically read it myself. -- Pat Ricochet Soul Jar'rn Fool of Atlanta

I am a new player - I started to play V:tES two months ago, but I quickly became addicted to it, I was playing Magic for at least four years till that. Magic sucks bigtime, V:tES is more difficult to play. [ quoted text not captured ]

i'm gonna be here off and on henceforth. there are very experienced players here, so it's good to hear your opinions. ditto lsj, the vamp from the white wolf camp. i've been playing since the outset, but sabbat war has definitely rekindled interest for me and my clan... not afraid to post, upset, postulate, ridicule, joke, brainstorm or apologize. love to read what y'all are writing, even when i don't post. ran a central PA tourney about 3 years ago, got 18 players, state college, chambersburg, slippery rock, easton, DC, michigan... it was good. that was when a box of sabbat could be gotten cheap for prizes. a beast-kills-it deck won, but there were some very interesting decks there, such as a tremere and mages catch-and-kill/bleed, malk cel/obf combat/bleed, and Tor/Gangr cel/pro. anarch overrun (even with zip/DBR) didn't fare very well. return-to-innocence wasn't really a factor either, though it did oust a couple players from prelim tables. sorry if some of my earlier posts came on too strong. i don't play the rpg, though i've read a fair amount of the basics. the CCG rules. i still play mtg, but it never has been and never will be what V:tes is...social. that's a kind of fun i like to have, more than "i'm a cross from you, so killing you is the only important thing." -spinney, spin, spintoy, gnome, john In article <919pmh$44g$1...@nnrp1.deja.com>, tr0i...@my-deja.com wrote: I've noticed that > there seem to be a lot of new people posting here now that Sabbat War > has had a chance to do it's thing. Certainly. On numerous occasions. I don't recall any great big debate that I was alone on one side of, frankly, so there's a certain amount of tacit agreement in the first place. I think the problem is the same as for anyone else; when I agree with someone, I tend to say "That works" or "Yep", and stop there... why repeat someone else? But if I disagree, I make sure to produce reasons; just saying "I disagree" and moving on is, well, kind of pointless. Reminds me of the old "Is not!" "Is too!" thing you get into as kids. Anyway, so what happens is, the vast majority of text is going to be related to a disagreement of some kind; the same for most people... and so you form opinions based on that majority. Accurate or not. Besides, some things annoy me and will pop me right out of the chute. Lack of literacy annoys me, as does failure to think or pay attention when given the opportunity. For awhile, the Atlanta group had to put up with a number of wack decks based on someone or other declaring that "____ card sucks!" Clever local Methuselahs learned to spot these and identify what card was being un-sucked the following Tuesday. (Twisting the Knife still sucks. I can't make it go. Someone else can try if they want, I said the magic words and all.) Extreme dumbassitude (its initials might be JM) annoys me; so does M:tCH style powergaming, where you argue things based on what your pet deck is, that you'd like either to become or stay broken, ...as opposed to a more objective, "what's best for the game" viewpoint. If I think I'm seeing that, I get very snarly. As much as I enjoy playing combat, for example, I don't like Disarm being a "send to torpor" at inferior. I think it could be broken, and the lack of anyone willing to play with 12 Disarms in a tournament deck is all that's keeping that from happening. (well, and the shortage of people with 12 Disarms.) Not to mention that I like to debate and/or argue, just for the mental exercise, and i'm not afraid to back up my own opinions. And frankly, I have to agree (aw, shit, you'll think i'm just doing this because you said that) with what Legbiter posted awhile back; overly civilized discussion is, frankly, unsuitable. More ideas and more good come out from heated back-and-forth exchange, as long as people refrain from reducing themselves solely to "Jerk. Dummy. Nerd. Loser." (Pkunk!) So I don't restrain myself from anything except unsupported out-of-the-blue "YOU ILLITERATE DORKUS!" flames, and in rare individual cases not even those. I also don't carry anything off of USENET into reality; i've had plenty of beer with Methuselahs that I'm sure I called a dumbass at some point or other. But it's words on a screen, man... who cares? I surely don't. -- Derek Jack-Booted Thug of Atlanta "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." - C. Darwin, 1871

I tend to post sporatically as I travel juat about every week for my job. The good part about it is that I get to play with alot of different groups, and the variations that crop up from group to group. Sometimes I even find groups who are active on the net, but are playing with some really "interesting" house rules. You can usually tell when I spend a week in the office as I post almost every hour during the day. 'Tis the Season for some Freezin' Comments Welcome, Norman S. I've played since Jyhad was released, but started posting here in August this year so I could get answers on all the hundreds of questions that ponders my mind ;) [ quoted text not captured ]

In a related note.... since a fair number of people in this thread said they were new to the game, and since we do want to be sure that we're drawing those people here who are new to the game, is it time to consider and RFD to change to rgt-c.vampire or vtes?
