Ok, this is a wierd ass list. I don't know where these cards came
from. I found a complete list on someone's homepage that included
these cards along with all of the basic set. The list came from
the card list generator at www.itis.com. I tested it, and all of
these cards are apparently in the database, although no one on
the mailing list nor the newsgroup nor anyone from WotC has mentioned
anything about a list being released. Shrug.
Anyway, there are some interesting things. Ravnos vampires are
under the "CROSS" heading for some reason. All non-vampire
cards are listed as political actions, which is obviously false.
Also, all the cards on the list from the basic set had everything
but the card text listed next to the entry, including the vampires,
while there seems to be no info in the database on the DS cards.
Each clan got 4 new vampires, except Toreador who got 5; my friend
pointed out that there are only 14 Toreadors in basic set....there are
only 10 vampires in the new clans.
Anyway, assuming this list is real, tons of cool sounding stuff.
Can't wait to get it.
- Johnny
p.s. I removed all the original cards from the list myself, assuming what
was left would be the DS cards.

seems strange, because just last night I read a posting that sounded
official saying that DS would contain the Followers of Set and the
Ravnos and not the Cross or the Giovanni. Who can clear this up? ...
Chick_Lewis
Is this correct? Tom?
(I ask because I bought a box, as did a friend of mine, and
we're each missing the same two vampires--Dan Murdock the alleged
Caitiff and Mariana Gilbert the alleged Toreador--other than
that we each received a full set of vampires. I wouldn't ask
except that there is an extra Toreador listed anyway, and
only having 3 caitiff instead of 4 is not a stretch...)
The list of regular cards seemed right (though who misspelled
Troile in "Triole's Revenge"? <grin>)--the only ones I was
missing, Art had....
Looks good, WotC...please delay the next expansion, though, until
my visa bill recovers :-)

Do you have to buy the novels to get these two? Are the novels out yet?
Has anyone seen these vampires? I doubt I would spend lots of $ just to
get a caitiff, but you never know. If the books are out, has anyone read
them, and are they any good?

I read the one that Dan Murdock is in. It is called On A Darkling Plain,
or something. It was really cool. And Dan is a cool card. A three blood
Caitiff, auspex and obfuscate. Dan takes an action to let you go through
your library, find Giant's Blood and bring it to your hand.

Actually, the Ravnos are represented by a cross symbol, and the Giovanni by an illuminated G.
Without some research, it was unclear which clan the cross symbol represented, but the Master
Fortune Teller Shop require the cross symbol, and gives tap to give any Ravnos +1 Stealth...
The Giovanni were easy, they are all surnamed Giovanni.

I hope you are planning to release these in a new expansion or
something, as opposed to making those of us who would like to see the cards
buy a book that we would probably never read and wouldn't get off the
shelves if it weren't for the card attached.

Is this for real???? How much did the book cost?

Actually, I have read "On a Darkling Plain", a WW / WOC book
that included a coupon for a V:TES card. I haven't recieved my card yet,
but Dan Murdock was a significant character in the story, so it will
probably be him. Judging from the story, he will be a catiff with potence
and fortitude.
The book itself was excellent, much better than house of secrets
(which was OK). It is about a struggle between two methuselahs, as told
through the eyes of Elliot Sinclair, our two hand damage Toreador, and
Dan Murdock, a catiff.
I wouldn't spend five bucks plus two stamps just to get Dan
Murdock, buff catiff, but if you are interested in the white wolf
backgrounds, you will find the story worth while.
I don't know the name of the book which gives you the other card,
I haven't spotted it in any of my favorite bookstores yet....

Don't say that, even in jest! DS took *way* too long to come out. If
Magic expansions had taken this long, it might have died on the vine.
Better to hope they ship *lots* of expansions with an even frequency, and
that they print enough of them that they're still available when your
VISA bill recovers. :)

I can verify that Dan Murdock is for real (a three blood Caitiff/
aus,obs -- Special ability - "Dan may take an action to allow you
to go through you library, find Giant's Blood and take it into
your hand. Reshuffle afterwards and discard to your maximum
hand size.) Cool vampire, no?
As to the price of the book, it sells for $5.99 at Borders books.
(Anyone remember when paperbacks cost about half this?). Unlike
the Magic novels, the Vampire novels have been good, especially
On A Darkling Plain.

NO! He's right. Think about it. Jyhad made it this far without DS, it
can make it with, say, 2 expansions a year max. I hear all the time about
people dropping out of Magic, sales slowing, etc., and I can only think
it's because WotC has exploded the Magic Balloon. One expansion every six
months [which should give him plenty of time to recover] is plenty. Just
because it took over a year for the first expansion doesn't mean they
need to make it up by rushing the ones after!

Well, your mileage may vary. My play group dissolved after a while, many
of us moving on to Shadowfist or other games. Some players even went back
to Magic. Sure, Magic may kick expansions out too fast, but Jyhad could
have used this transfusion a lot sooner. I don't know how many of our
players will come *back* to Jyhad, but I know that many of them would
have stayed with it with an influx of new cards. CCG's *need* new cards
periodically to stay interesting.

Interestingly, Chess, the game with more pieces among the two, has
got quite a few variants, while Go, with only 1 kind of piece for
each player (a piece IS a piece IS a piece), hasn't got any variants
I've heard about (except Othello?). According to CCG design theory,
Go players must be bored to hell playing a one-piece, hence no-variety
game for thousands of years?
What about an expansion for Go? More pieces, and some kick-butt
rares for sure! This will certainly open up new realms of strategies
in that old, boring game!
Go piece ideas:
Displacement Rare Cost: $4
(shaped like an out-reaching elbow)
effect: play on an opponent's piece. Opponent's piece is captured
and replaced by Displacement.
Atomic Bomb Rare Cost: $20
(shaped like a mushroom)
effect: play in any space. All pieces in a 7 space radius of either
side are captured.
:-)

My group has found that Jyhad remains interesting after a year and some
months, without transfusions. Theoretically, a CCG can have plenty of
variety to support indefinite play, as in classic games like chess and Go,
without expansions. Whether that is actually the case with any existing

Can I join your group then? :)

Cool - you're the first person I've ever seen (besides myself) who plays both
go and jyhad :)
I find myself using go strategy often when playing jyhad - like sacrificing
some vampire to make some other gain.

I think you should look around more carefully.
Several of the people from Rec.games.go are here
and some people from IGS are here also.
I think those who play go, find time for a less seriousand
complicated more playful strategy game in their lives.
JustMHO though.
Cool. More Jyhad, more Go. less work.
