how many corruption counters are required to steal allies that are brought in without a cost? ie. Spell of Life mummies Khazar's Diary wraiths Absimiliard's Army ghouls

[ quoted text not captured ] Correct. Zero would suffice as "equal" if any effect were around looking to change control of the minion. But no effect is. The only effects that look for zero or more corruption counters are ones that place the counters themselves first, so you end up with a counter.
