I give my Shadow Court Satyr the Earth Meld card. Is there any card that can be played to prevent him using that ability to end combat ? Since it's an ability, and not a card, I'd assume that a Thoughts Betrayed wouldn't work ?

Yes. Immortal Grapple. Thoughts Betrayed. > Since it's an ability, and not a card, I'd assume that a Thoughts > Betrayed wouldn't work ? The card is treated as though it were played from your hand every time you use it. (And you may only use it once per combat.) See the online card text: http://www.white- wolf.com/vtes/Cardlist_S.html#Shadow_Court_Satyr_Changeling "Shadow Court Satyr (Changeling) (Sabbat) 3 pool -- Gangrel Antitribu -- Ally Ally with 3 life. 1 <strength>, 1 bleed. When Shadow Court Satyr comes into play, you may put a combat card from your hand on him. <Once> during combat, Satyr may use the ability of that card as if that card had been played from your hand. If the card has a cost, he pays its cost in life to use its ability. If the card requires a Discipline, he may only use the basic ability of that card <as a vampire with a capacity of 1>. If the ability would give him blood, give him life instead." Therefore, if you choose a strike card as the card you put on the SCS, it will be treated as though it had been played from your hand, as though you were playing a strike card, and thus will be prevented by both Immortal Grapple and Thoughts Betrayed. Also, Fast Reaction, Hidden Lurker and Dog Pack. The first two, in their combats, prevent all strikes. Dog Pack prevents combat ends strikes by the opponent in all combats with that retainer. The original poster may also find things like Cryptic Mission useful to bear in mind. The Shadow Court Satyr has 3 life, which is harder to Cryptic Mission away - but damage dealt outside of combat is something to bear in mind. Thankfully, SCS doesn't have to worry about Drawing Out the Beast killing it, however. Off-Topic: A friend of mine was playing Changeling and had a Pooka in his group. They have the quite nice special ability of being able to change into one specific creature when no-one is looking at them. Most people choose something like a bear, or a falcon, or something like that - something in the area of man-sized or less, with something useful about them. His group's pooka went: "Quick, everyone look away." *people turn their backs* *TH-DUM* "Sperm whale! Woohoo!" -- James Coupe | PGP Key 0x5D623D5D | ja...@zephyr.org.uk (New e-mail) "Who'd have ever predicted the moment would come when I find myself grateful they've kept women dumb?
