How does first strike interact with dodge? I would guess that it would beat a dodge (inflict damage before the dodge resolves) , but I could see it going either way.

That's pretty weak. I realize (tons) that this is not Magic:TG but you would think that a certain amount of continuity would occur in the "Deckmaster" games, with an emphasis on definitions being consistent. For example, if First Strike is used in Game A, and is used in Game B, they should be held in close regard. First strike should mean just that, I hit you first before you do anything. "Strike:CE" by definition should be reworded to be "First Strike: Combat Ends" which if done would probably deflate some of the repetition of questions from newer players. The whole timing issues are what killed the game of Magic for me, it would be nice if V:TES could be a bit more cut & dry and avoid that pitfall. [ quoted text not captured ]

They are relatively similar. First Strike beats all other "strikes" in Magic, except (now) the effects of flanking. In Jyhad, First Strike beats all normal strikes, except for S:CE and Dodge. > First strike should mean just that, I hit you first before you do > anything. Likely true, but we would probably have different questions then (rather than "Does first strike beat S:CE" it would be "Which first strikes go first?" > The whole timing issues are what killed the game of Magic for me, it > would be nice if V:TES could be a bit more cut & dry and avoid that > pitfall. With the exception of some of the newer card effects (which could, I might add, be fixed up quite easily), it is cut and dried. Alexandria's special, The Louvre, Heidelburg Castle, and some others have created timing baggage, but this baggage could easily be avoided by a ruling on timing of such actions. (My own preference is to make all special "tap" abilities only usable when nothing else is resolving, in normal order of precedence (actor, predator/prey/directed target, clockwise around the table), excepting explicit card text.) We have a nice house rule that says dodge can't beat FS. Which makes sense, coz you never knew what hit ya, so it's hard to dodge in such cases. : > First strike should mean just that, I hit you first before you do : > anything. dodge and S:CE both cancel a first strike (of course, if the attacker has already declared their strike, there are very few ways in which they can avoid my defenders first strike/aggro damage heheheh) Now dog pack is out they cant even run away!
