Hi. Just a couple of brief questions that I need rulings on 1. Vast Wealth. At what point is this action blocked (if at all). Is it once the piece of equipment has been found or is it as soon as the action is announced i.e. is the equipment burnt or not? 2. The Spawning Pool. The card says that if combat goes a second round (after blocking a bleed against you), tap to deal 1 damage per blood on the Spawning Pool. Is this a strike? The wording would imply not meaning that as soon as a second round begins, you can do the damage. This seems a wee bit too powerful. Any thought?

As soon as the second round begins is fine - before range is determined or what-not. It is not a strike and may not be dodged. Damage may be prevented as normal (by cards that say they can prevent damage :-). -- ----- L. Presumably cards which prevent damage from a strike such as Skin of Steel could not be used as it's not a strike but Skin of Rock could as it prevents damage? -- Richard --- "A Smith & Wesson beats four aces..." ric...@onechip.co.uk

[ quoted text not captured ] I thought all damage prevention cards can only be played during the check damage phase of combat. However if I am wrong can you also use Skin of Rock to reduce talbot's damage? Steve

You may use combat cards any time during combat, as needed. This generally means: Maneuver only when you are allowed. Press only when allowed. Prevent damage only when damage is pending. So, you may use Skin of Rock at any tim e*during combat* to prevent damage (card text). Since Talbot's 3 damage comes at a point when no one is in combat, you may not use combat cards, nor cards that say "prevent N damage per combat" such as the Flak Jacket. Sorry. -- L. How about preventing it with an existing Flak Jacket or Resplendent Portecotr? Would that work, since you don't have to play them, and they are usable once per combat? Hunter -- J. You guys have a nasty habit of assuming the word "only" where it is not. Since the rules do not say when you can play Taste of Vitae, then am I to assume that I cannot play it, or that (since it has the combat symbol) I can play it at any appropriate time during combat? Just because a card "can be" played at a given time does not mean that the card "can only be" played at that time. This is the same leap of logic imparted to Reaction cards, Master OoT cards, 2nd Tradition, etc. It's fine if you want it to work that way - but you need to issue errata so that the rules reflect that. Right now, Skin of Rock may be played Only during combat (the combat symbol) Only if <more> damage is being dealt [15.1]. Just because it can be played during strike resolution does not necessarily mean that it can only be played during strike resolution. [ quoted text not captured ]

You can only play damage prevention cards during strike resolution just like you can only play maneuvers during the maneuver step, strikes during the choose strike step(s), and presses during the press step. Occasionally playing such a card will provide a second function later on, e.g. superior Flash or a strike with optional maneuver, but you cannot use such cards outside of the appropriate step. If a card does not clearly provide one of these four functions, then it can be played at any point during a combat, unless of course it says otherwise. Taste of Vitae tells you when you can play it. >Just because a card "can be" played at a given time does not mean that the >card "can only be" played at that time. This is the same leap of logic >imparted to Reaction cards, Master OoT cards, 2nd Tradition, etc. Huh? You can only play intercept cards when you need intercept. You can only burn political action cards for votes during a political action. And so on. It is a very general rule that if a certain step is set aside for a certain type of card, that type of card can only be played during that step. >It's fine if you want it to work that way - but you need to issue errata >so that the rules reflect that. The rules could use a reminder sentence, but they do not need errata. >Right now, Skin of Rock may be played Only during combat (the combat symbol) >Only if <more> damage is being dealt [15.1].
