The LA crowd is going to be here: http://www.vtesinla.org/won2003.htm GENCON INDY 2003 JULY 24-27, 2003I Stay tuned to this page. It'll be updated as more info becomes available. I found the Comfort Suite it's 13mi from convention center its the same layout and it's half the cost! The BIG rooms are $109 a day so for 4 ppl the 4 days is $89 TOTAL! I already booked it and the manager said we can use the breakfast are ALL night and ALSO the meeting room right next door!!!!! The non-BIG rooms are even cheaper! Comfort Suits 9760 crosspoint Blvd. (317)578-1200 ASK for Dawn If we reserve 10 rooms we all get another 10% off. And I'm not opposed to getting a big 15 passanger van if ppl wanna go in for Transpo.! LMK Mike Courtois

How many VTES folks are *not* going to be at the "not quite a Week of Nightmares" Comfort Suites at GenCon Indy? I ask because I booked a room through GenCon a while ago, at one of the next-door hotels to the convention center. I could in theory cancel it, suck up the $50 fee, and rebook at the LA-crowd hotel. That might even be worth doing if everyone VTESsy is going to be there. But it seems like it would be nice to actually be in the downtown hotel (it's not that much more expensive, except for parking, if that turns out to be super-pricey, and I'd probably have to pay for downtown parking even if staying at the Comfort Suites, unless the van plan materialized and I were in on it). I'm planning on being there for the whole "Coupl'a days of Nightmares". I haven't made any room reservations yet, since it seems there's still some decisions to be made as to where people will stay, and I'd like to pick rooms where there will be the maximum amount of V:TES being played. Also, my wife may foolishly choose to hurl herself into a week of geek-dom and, if so, we'll get a room together. If she doesn't come, then I'd be looking to split something with someone. Guess I should iron out that point soon. Whatever the case, I will of course require a hotel that has a bar with a pool nearby. ;) David Cherryholmes Duke Radiology P.E.T. Yeah, maximum VTES is definitely the goal. My preference, again, is probably to be downtown rather than at the Comfort Suites, as it just seems more convenient to me. (I have enough trouble getting to tournaments before they start even without staying some miles away from the venue, heh heh...) But if it turns out that the majority votes for Comfort Suites, I won't hold it against you if you stay there. ;-) Hey, LSJ... where are *you* planning to stay? :-) > Also, my wife may foolishly choose to hurl herself into a > week of geek-dom and, if so, we'll get a room together. (Not that I've ever met her.) hee! > Whatever the case, I will of course require a hotel that has a bar with a > pool nearby. ;) Well, obviously. I mean, is life worth living if you can't get drunk and go swimming late at night? ;-) Josh can i get a 'what what'

A point in favor of getting as many VTESers as possible to also stay downtown, then. :-) Josh lsj groupie (no, not like *that*...)

I know Mike Courtois has booked at least one room there, don't know how many Angelenos are also planning to attend. The Comfort Suites is $109 a night for "the big rooms", less for the non-big, extra discount if 10+ rooms were reserved by the group. They do have an indoor pool, according to Mike it's laid out just like the one at the Milwaukee airport, so you could do a complete reenactment if you like. ;-) The reservation I made downtown through GenCon was $127 a night. I don't know if prices have changed or anything since then... > I can look this stuff up myself, and will, but if there's a keyboard > jockey out there that already knows the answers, I wouldn't mind saving > the effort. You'd have to make some effort, probably, to find out exactly where you can get a reservation downtown and at what price - there are links from the GenCon home page to go through their booking system, http://www.gencon.com/. I had my decks all planned out in order of seriousness. I've got one shot to be a *little* goofy in Atlanta, but if that busts then it's going to be some "I qualify" crap in DC. There's no way I want to head to GenCon still trying to qualify. [ quoted text not captured ]

I hear ya, I almost got shutout at my OWN qualifier. Don't give up so easily though. I went to GenCon last year, not having qualified and surprised the shit out of myself when i did. I wouldn't make any claims to being a "metagame reader", myself, and I'm a little suspicious of anyone who claims they can, but I suppose it's possible. Horoscopes can actually be occasionally right on, too. > Don't give up so easily though. I went to GenCon last year, not having > qualified and surprised the shit out of myself when i did.
