Ok, some quick questions; First, when Ebanezer Rouch uses his ability to enter combat with a 4-cap or lower vamp does that vamp tap to 'block/intercept' him? I am not sure since you usually tap to intercept someone and cancel their action? I am just kinda confused about him... Second, if I have the money to get a box of V:tES cards, which would you suggest getting, a box of boosters or a box of starters? (btw remember I am new to the game and currently have only 1 deck) :p Third, do Tremere and Malks come in decks? Because my friend and I bought starters, and I ended up with a bunch of tremere cards with no way to play them, he also ended up with quite a few thaurm cards but luckily had a load of the master:disciples and a few were thaurm ones. And I wanted to build a Malk/Nos deck but was wondering how to go about doing that? I mean, we didn't get any Malk vampires at all. I mainly ended up with a load of big vampires who take forever to get out and he got quite a few of the smaller vamps, and always gets them out way before i can ever get my big-slow ass vamps out. Ah well, such is life... -Who "Sa souvraya niende masain ye" - "I am lost in my own mind."

There are a number of vampires with the special ability to attack other vampires directly. This means they go into combat without having been blocked prior. No, this is an action, so it can be blocked by vampires of the Methuselah whose vampire is being attacked. Combat will result anyway: Either you cannot (Ebenazer has +2 stealth) block, and the action is successful - combat. Or you can block, with any of your minions, even the one originally targetted by Ebanezer - combat. > > Second, if I have the money to get a box of V:tES cards, which would you > suggest getting, a box of boosters or a box of starters? (btw remember I > am new to the game and currently have only 1 deck) :p That depends... in a starter display you will find 160 vampires and 30 rare-cards, in a booster display there are 144 vampires but 36 rares. It's clearly up to you what you want. Note: In a Jyhad Starter display there are only 20 rares, and less then 160 vamps! > > Third, do Tremere and Malks come in decks? No clan comes pre-constructed in a deck. If you got no vamps suited for the library cards, that's bad luck. But in one display you should find vamps of all clans. > > And I wanted to build a Malk/Nos deck but was wondering how to go about > doing that? I mean, we didn't get any Malk vampires at all. Ah well, such is > life... Try to have half of your crypt with vamps of capacity 4 or lower. The other half can be higher (yes, even 10 cap-vamps). While the small vamps are quickly usable, the larger have some very handy built-in abilities (e.g. +1 bleed, +1 hand damage) which help later in the game. A good thing to keep in mind is blood support. Try to include cards that bring you back some pool. Blood Doll (+ Hunting Ground) comes to mind, or the vote Consanguineos Boon (sp?), but you will have to have quite a number of vamps from one clan to make it worth playing. :) Good luck, Carl Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. This can be important if Ebanezer had been given a Fortitude Skill card - since if the action is successful (unblocked), he can play Freak Drive at inferior to untap after the combat. If it is blocked, he cannot. -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) V:TES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. Send me a list of the vampires you and your friend are missing from the basic set (Jyhad and VTES) and your address and I will give them to you. Everyone should have a set of vamps. :) They will be Jyhad backed but they will be free! Only one catch to the offer - you have to tell everyone you know how much you LOVE this game in your area. I am not sure since you usually tap to intercept someone and cancel their action? I am just kinda confused about him...>> An important aspect of Jyhad to understand is that combat, in and of itself, does not tap a vampire. There are only a few things that cause a vampire to tap, and they are very well defined. A vampire taps when: A) It performs an action. B) It successfully blocks. C) Some card tells it to. As getting attacked by Ebaneezer does not fulfil one of these conditions, the target does not become tapped. If the victim of Ebaneezer's attack decided (for whatever reason) to block Ebaneezer's attack, he could do so, and if he came up with the +2 intercept needed (assuming Ebaneezer doesn'y increase his stealth), he would successfully block the action and become tapped. As a successful block generally (barring a few cards that say otherwise) results in combat, blocking Ebaneezer's attack wouldn't really change anything--Ebaneezer would still be beating you up. To rieterate, combat in and of itself does not tap a vampire, so if a vampire is attacked by Ebaneezer, or by a Bum's Rush, or by a Garou, or whatever, he does not get tapped by that attack. He might get torporized by the attack, but he isn't tapped unless he successfully blocks something. >>Second, if I have the money to get a box of V:tES cards, which would you suggest getting, a box of boosters or a box of starters? (btw remember I am new to the game and currently have only 1 deck) :p>> Defenitely get boosters. Jyhad/VTES was printed before the idea of "playable starters" or whatever was invented, so between starters and boosters, you get the exact same spread of cards, but fewer Rares in the starters (with 36 boosters, you get 36 Rares. With 10 starters, you get 20 Rares). Either way, however, they should be really cheap--you can get boxes of Jyhad boosters for $10.00 if you try hard and $15.00 if you don't try hard. If you are spending more than $15.00 for a box of boosters, buy them somewhere else. >>Third, do Tremere and Malks come in decks? You just got a wacky deal. Jyhad has a lot of different "factions" (7 different clans, ~10 different disciplines), so in any given alottment of cards, you are likely to get a very diverse assortment. >>And I wanted to build a Malk/Nos deck but was wondering how to go about doing that? Ah well, such is life...>> There is an infinite amount of strategy written on this game, mostly from this news group. If you have web access, go to the WOTC web page (which doesn't have any actual, good Jyhad information on it), and from there, link over to the Vampire Elder Kindred Network (the official player's organization) web site which has a lot of useful information, and links to other good strategy based web sites. Or, you can just ask specific questions here, and we'll all answer them. Peter D Bakija PD...@aol.com "He sees the things he knows are his He sees the bright and hollow sky" -Iggy Pop
