[LSJ] Two Setite combat questions

I have questions on two of the Serpentis combat cards: First one is concerning Typhonic Beast and Path of Typhon: Typhonic Beast Only usable before range is determined. [ser] For the remainder of combat, this vampire gets +1 strength. [pot][ser] As [ser] above, and this vampire can prevent 1 damage each round. [POT][SER] As [pot][ser] above, and this vampire gets an optional press this round. Path of Typhon Unique Master. Put this card in play. Followers of Set burn 1 less blood when playing cards that require Serpentis. Any minion may burn this card as a (D) action; if that minion is a vampire, he or she takes one damage (damage not preventable) when this card is burned. Does the 1 blood cost of Typhonic Beast get reduced when it is played at any of the superiors? It seems logical to me that it should be, since it would be both a Serpentis card (qualifying for the Path) and a Potence card, but I was told it wont reduce cost at superior. Second question is about The Jones and maneuver/strike cards: The Jones Only usable in combat with an ally or younger vampire. [ser] Strike: dodge, with an optional press, only usable to end combat. [SER] Cancel the opposing minion's strike as it is declared. Any blood or pool cost burned for that strike is retrieved from the blood bank by the vampire or Methuselah who played it. The opposing minion gets a new opportunity to declare a strike. A vampire may play only one The Jones at superior each round. Aid from Bats [ani] Strike: 1R damage, with an optional maneuver. [ANI] As above, with an optional press. If you cancel a strike/maneuver like Aid From Bats with The Jones, how does it resolve? Thanks!

So its cost is reduced by the path of typhoon. > Second question is about The Jones and maneuver/strike cards: > > The Jones > Only usable in combat with an ally or younger vampire. De facto, you cancel the aid from bats *when it is played*, which means at the choose range step. So the opposing minion can play another aid from bats or a thrown gate if he has one. He can also choose not to play a maneuver+strike card and wait for strike declaration to play something else. no particular difficulty here if you play the jones as it is written , meaning when the opponent lays his card :)

So its cost is reduced by the path of typhoon. Correct. If it requires Serpentis (with or without other requirements), its cost (for Followers of Set) is reduced by the Path of Typhon >>Second question is about The Jones and maneuver/strike cards: >>If you cancel a strike/maneuver like Aid From Bats with The Jones, how >>does it resolve? > > De facto, you cancel the aid from bats *when it is played*, which means at > the choose range step. > So the opposing minion can play another aid from bats or a thrown gate if he > has one. > He can also choose not to play a maneuver+strike card and wait for strike > declaration to play something else. > > no particular difficulty here if you play the jones as it is written , > meaning when the opponent lays his card :) Correct. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. We all know that any strike card that grants a maneuver, if it's being played during choose range step, is still an earlier strike declaration, but I'd never notice this usage of The Jones' as a "maneuver cancel card" per actual text (since it does not say "cancel a strike *card* as it is played", as other cards do, but "cancel the opposing minion's strike as it is declared", which would mean to me in Aid from Bats' case that no matter when it and The Jones is played, it cancels the 1R damage strike, but not the maneuver). Similarly, I'd thought that The Jones at superior can be played to cancel a default hand strike by the opposing minion (again, "cancel the opposing minion's strike [...] the opposing minion gets a new opportunity to declare a strike"), though it won't do anything but cycle the card since the opposing minion's has a new non-restricted opportunity to declare any strike, even another hand one. So we can assume that any effect that cancels any strike automatically cancels any side-effect of that strike that has not been used yet, be it maneuver, press, "environmental" damage or prevention?
