I have a little question regarding combat melee weapons that add their damage ot the base damage of the vampire. If a vampire with aggravated damage (Basilia) is equipped with a Bastard Sword, does she do 2 Normal damage as melee or 2 aggravated damage? I couldn't be sure how the ruling goes. If she strikes with the Sword, she does 2 damage. This damage is not hand damage, so her ability (hand damage is agg) does not apply. Is she strikes with hands, she does 1 damage. This damage is hand damage, so is aggravated (by her special ability). Since she isn't striking with the Sword, she doesn't get the added damage to the strike. -- L. Should Basilia do aggravated damage with hand strikes only? That should be an errata on the card. A friend of mine and I have been differentiating hand strikes and hand damage, particularly with things like Immortal Grapple, Drawing out the Beast, etc. For instance, a vamp armed with a Bastard Sword increases hand damage, but is a melee attack, and not a hand strike. Is my interpretation of this correct?

But I don't think it does: Bastard Sword inflicts damage in an amount equal to +1 hand damage. (Elaboration on card text, VtES). It inflicts this damage when used as a strike. Like any strike, the damage comes from the strike. In this case, the strike is a melee weapon strike, not a hand strike, so the damage is melee weapon damage, not hand damage. > A friend of mine and I have been differentiating hand strikes and hand damage, > particularly with things like Immortal Grapple, Drawing out the Beast, etc. "Hand damage" means two things: the amount of damage that a minion would inflict with an unmodified hand strike, and the damage inflicted from a hand strike. "Hand strike" means only one thing: a hand strike. Only hand strikes can be used under Immortal Grapple. Drawing out the beast changes the "hand damage" (first meaning). > For instance, a vamp armed with a Bastard Sword increases hand damage, but is > a melee attack, and not a hand strike. Is my interpretation of this correct? The vamp *armed* with a Sword does not increase his hand damage. A vamp *striking* with a Sword will do damage equal to his hand damage (first meaning) plus one. This damage is not hand damage (second meaning), but rather, is melee weapon damage. [ quoted text not captured ]
