Yeah, I coulda just jumped into another existing thread on this same subject, but most of them have spiraled out of control by now, so I figured I'd start a new one. I got my box today (actually, half a box--I like to be budget minded) and after an orgy of card opening, I'm pretty psyched. The set looks fantastic. The card distribution seems pretty solid--in 18 packs, I only got 1 duplicate rare (the Meat Packing Plant deally :-) of which only 2 are Crusades and a lot of the good, utilitarian commons. I don't know how many different vampires I got out of the set, but I'll figure that out eventually. I got the ones that i was hoping for. The Event cards are all pretty entertaining--I'm not really seeing them having a huge impact on the game in a competetive sense, but I can see them coming up a lot in casual play for grins. This being said, I have *no* idea what the hell that guy was talking about when he posted, what, last week, that Fall of the Camarilla was going to be the new "broken card" and was going to make PTO fall off the map. Was he on crack? The card requires, what, three other Gehenna cards in play *and* you don't ever get to replace it? Yeah. That card is going to see a lot of play. All the time. Uh-huh. The new vampires are all very solid. I loooove Petra. She's so sexy. And a 5 with 2 good in clan superiors. Heh heh. Sadly, as a group 4, I have to totally retool my current 2/3 ANI/OBF deck crypt to use her. But I'll be doing that. Oh yes. I will. Dr. Julius makes me so very happy, as by complete cooincidence, I just built a POT/dom rush deck out of group 2/3. And lo and behold, a group 3 POT/dom vampire. Heh heh. Sadly, this means I once again have to push poor Judah out of a deck (poor Judah. No one loves Judah) but hey, a 5 with POT/dom. And a good special. Fantastical. And yeah, as I mentined elsewhere, while I'll defend the existance of Group 4 vampires to the end of the earth, yeah, I'm kinda dissapointed that I have to really work to get new 4's into my existing decks, if at all. Oh well. Overall, very, very solid looking set. Can't wait to get mileage out of them. When are the tourney legal? I was very impressed with the distribution of the set as well. From each of the two boxes I opened I got 2 complete sets of the vampires and no more than 2 of any rares. The two boxes also yielded a complete set but thats more luck than anything else. -JTP

There were some commons I got one of. There were some vampires I didn't get at all (cyseck, for example). Looks like I've got some trading to do. > The Event cards are all pretty entertaining--I'm not really seeing them > having a huge impact on the game in a competetive sense, but I can see them > coming up a lot in casual play for grins. The events ARE entertaining, in various ways. From a game design point, from a crying to myself "why, why gawd aren't they good enough?!?". Some will see play (dragonbound) but it will take very finely tuned decks that will make tournament worthy use out of them (compare to GtuA where you don't need to think about it much to make it good). My other commend though does to reinforce that guys opinion that FoCam is broken. If someone actual decides to play the card, its going to tick a lot of people off. Granted, this is only going to happen in Casual play, but its enough to make playgroup sizes decrease in size. We've already had 1 person leave because of Gehenna, and itinfluenced 2 others to not play as much, if at all. Two other people expressed concerns when Prophecies came out, hating that format so much, and fearing that Gehenna was going to be like it. Have you had this problem? I suppose this last paragraph deserves to be its own topic... ~SV

Considering that there are cards to counter the events I think it will become a balance issue for different playgroups where people figure out how many counter cards are needed. I'm willing to bet it becomes like anarchs, there and present in the game, but not adversely affecting. After all, you oust the guy and the events are gone. -JTP

[ quoted text not captured ] You all are so lucky or something very impressed with the set in general bought 25 packs - interesting to note that i received 3 each of 3 rares - the seal, tapestry of blood, and what is quite possibly the most useless card in the game: Centralized Background Check. (anyone want to trade for a copy of it?) Got 5 crusades (that's not bad) vampires distribution was ok. jds

Looks like I've got some trading to do. Somwhere between 2-4 (out of half a box). I think I got 5 Entrenching (the only card I got 5 of). I got 4 of a bunch of cards (Soak, Desert Eagle, animalism intercept card, some of the archetypes). And 2 or 3 of most of the commons. Onle 1 of a few of them. I got mostly 1 vampire of a given vampire, but doubles of a handfull, and 3 of one or two of them. I didn't get any of a handfull as well. > My other commend though does to reinforce that guys opinion that FoCam > is broken. Sure--but it is really hard to play (it has to be the 4th Gehenna card in play, meaning you probably have to play 3 others, meaning you have to have enough of them in your deck to be able to play 3 and then have FoCam in your hand and then play it, and then there has to be a deck at the table that really maximizes being Camarilla for anyone to care. And then you have to not care that you have a hand size of 6 for the rest of your life). And doesn't affect *that* many decks--mainly Prince/Justicar/IC decks, which aren't that uncommon, sure, but it is perfectly possible that any given game is going to not have a single deck that cares wether or not the Camarilla exists. It can be a pretty serious hoser, sure. But lots of things can be a serious hoser to any given deck. At least FoCam is really hard to play. [ quoted text not captured ]

I don't think it is *that* useless--I mean, yeah, it is kind of a narrow hoser card, but if you expect to see a lot of weapons, it strikes me as quite reasonable--it is free, and unlike, say, what, Peace Treaty?, it is easy to play.
