Hi all, Something came up the other day that I want to clarify. We had always played (Minion A is at Full Capacity) Minion A- Strike: Theft of Vitae Steal 2 Blood Minion B - Stike: Hands for 2 (using some ability) (or long range shoot for 2) Resolution (How we had been playing) Minion B loses 2 blood and A gains 2, A Takes 2 damage Minion A loses 2 excess blood to the Bank A burns 2 blood to heal 2 damage Net result, loss of 2 blood each. However, someone came up to Cambridge the other day and said that this was wrong and should be Minion B loses 2 and A gains 2, A takes 2 Damage A heals 2 Damage by burning 2 blood, and therefore doesn't lose any excess, as it has already been burnt to heal. Net Result, B loses 2 blood, A loses none. Which is correct? I only need to know, as it makes any low cap Tremeres better than first thought, and my Thaupentis deck a lot better than I thought. The rulebook explicitly states that you are correct and that the mysterious visitor to Cambridge is in error. [6.4.3] -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. "LSJ" <vte...@white-wolf.com> wrote in message news:3CDFB429...@white-wolf.com... [ quoted text not captured ] Probably because in [6.4.5] it says the following: Steal Blood: This effect moves blood counters (or life counters) from the target to the striking minion. This does not count as damage, so the effect cannot be prevented with damage prevention effects. This effect occurs before the "heal damage" step of damage resolution, so the stolen blood can be used to heal damage even if the damage is inflicted simultaneously. If the stolen blood causes the striking vampire to have more blood than his capacity, the excess drains off immediately (as usual). The line about "so the stolen blood can be used to heal damage" is probably the source of confusion. Even though the next line says that the blood drains off immediately, it also says that the blood coming can be used to heal damage. So, I'm guessing they had a misunderstanding about the timing (when do you actually move the blood? As the strike is announced or as it is resolved). This has been an issue in our playgroup as well. Granted, it also states the excess drains immediately and is followed by an explanation of sarah cobler stealing 3 blood from a mage to clarify the meaning. Regardless, I just wanted to show you were the confusion probably originated from.
