[ quoted text not captured ] Good answer, but that isn't what Saulot's card text says. Staring at it in my hands.... "...During your untap phase, you may move 2 blood from Saulot to any vampire in your uncontrolled region or in play..." That's what we need a ruling on. Jeff

Sorry, this should also be titled "Clarification on Saulot's blood moving special" as only a clarification, not a ruling, is required.

d

Reading it, I thought 'you' could choose to move 1 or 2 blood, but it has been questioned in a JOL game and will surely be coming up regularly if not resolved. Card text: Saulot, The Wanderer [LoB:U] Cardtype: Vampire Clan: Salubri Group: 4 Capacity: 11 Discipline: dai AUS FOR OBE THA VAL Independent: Damage Baali inflict on Saulot is reduced to 0. During your untap phase, you may move 2 blood from Saulot to any vampire in your uncontrolled region or in play. +1 bleed. +1 strength. Scarce.

I would also read it that way Pat, however it has been questioned in a JOL game and will surely come up often if not resolved. [ quoted text not captured ]

If he has only 1, he can empty himself (like when you steal 2 blood from a vampire with only 1 blood), but otherwise, he moves 2. -- That is my story, be it bitter or be it sweet. Apparently I was misremembering a post from TheLasombra on Menele's (very similar) ability as having been confirmed by you, which apparently it never was: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad/msg/b3ac8b9ae2b801b3. But I would have interpreted Saulot the same way Jeff did Menele - that "move 2" means "move exactly 2", not "attempt to move 2 but move as much as you can if 2 isn't there" - especially given the plethora of cards that use "move up to 2" wordings. I always thought the "steal blood/burn life targets the minion, not the blood" ruling was specific to those particular effects (stealing blood and burning life), and wouldn't apply to effects of a minion on itself: "Q: Can I play Cryptic Mission against a vampire with no blood? How about Blood to Water against a vampire with only 2 blood? A: Yes. Steal/burn blood/life effects target the minion, not the individual blood counters. Similarly, burn pool effects target the Methuselah, not the individual pool counters." [LSJ 10-Jul-2001] It would actually have been pretty useful for me in a draft game this past Saturday to be able to move Saulot's last blood off him, but I just couldn't believe his wording would allow it... :-) Josh ought to know better than to use 11-caps in draft

That reads, to me, the same as what I said above -- you cannot choose to move just one, but when you choose 2 (the only choice) and have only one to move, then you move one. Much like stealing two blood.

It seems to vary from the usual rule that you can't attempt to do an effect if you can't do the entire effect, but the blood-stealing rule does provide an exception to that. I just wouldn't have placed Menele and Saulot under that rule, since they're not "stealing" or "burning" blood, but "moving" it, with a foreseeable inability to do the entire move-blood effect. Josh had to break the window
