Don't forget that if he get's torporised and you worry about the pool cost of that he might be fetched-torporised again, you can always eat him up if you won't get burned in the blood hunt. Or have someone else eat him. Or play vulnerability. When your famed vamp is about to be rushed, check if your allies has a means of helping you out. (eagles sight, Anneke or whatever)

Just that it can also be a great help on that account, as an aside to helping get big guys out without risking too many turns undefended.
