I'm thinking about getting into the game. I played a little when Jyhad
first came out (wish I kept my cards!). It's exciting that White Wolf
has full control of the game now; It gives one confidence that they'll
give it the support it deserves.
My question is what should I buy to get into the game? Is the new
Sabbat War stand-alone expansion enough or should I try and get some of
the past expansions, including the first set? Is White Wolf reissuing
cards from these old sets?
I am heavily leaning toward Assamite decks even though I understand
they're not exactly for beginners. Knowing that, would it be better
and/or cheaper to buy a couple boxes of Ancient Hearts or just the
singles dealing with the Assassins?

The only reissues are in the form of reprinted individual cards in
the new expansions. White Wolf is not currently looking to do
straight whole reprints the old WotC sets.

Almost always cheaper to buy boxes than singles, esp. when boxes
are going for below retail. Plus you get a lot of other cards
that you may find useful later or that you can trade/give away.
Also note that the next expansion, Final Nights, will focus on
the independent clans and will include an Assamite preconstructed
starter (as well as preconstructed starters for the other three).
Final Nights is scheduled for a June release.

So Final Nights will probably have a bunch of cards reprinted from
Ancient Hearts?
What determines whether White Wolf reprints an old card in a new set or
not?

The boosters will contain only new cards - no reprints at all.
The preconstructed starters will contain reprints as well as
a few new cards.

The design team.

Does this mean that there will be no new cards concerning the
Camarilla?
That "purist" new players, who only want to play with new sets, will
only get to use Vampires who have allegiance to the Sabbat or Indie clans?
Or will Final Nights have vampires from all three sects (or at least some
Camarilla in the mix with the Independents)?

The exact contents of the set has not been released.

What do you mean by 'purist' new players? Are you saying that there are
new players that follow some set of self-inflicted purity rules on
themselves to play with only new cards?
Or are you suggesting the possibility of new players only being able to
find (and thus play) with the new cards that are out there....?
I can understand what you mean, if you mean the latter. It makes a good
point, but wow, I don't want reprints! I want new cards!! :)

I think he might be trying to say that he's tired of seeing yet even
MORE different vampire clans being released. Its very noble of WW to
get so in depth into the game with new clans, new disiplines, etc...
however it does little for those of use who's clans are all
camarilla... And it makes buying Final Nights cards unprofitable
(hmm... serpentis card, assimite card, <Insert list of independent
cvampires and their discipline actions>, hey! ONE card I can possibly
use in my <insert camarilla clan here> deck! Super..."
Just a thought.

No.. I was simply pointing out the fact that, theoretically, new players
might want to say "Ok.. there's this new set, Sabbat War. It's a good
place to start and spend a minimum of money." and not want to bother
picking up older cards, but be perfectly happy buying packs from new
expansions.
On the other hand, it does make some in-game sense. Old-school Vampire
was pretty much centered around the Camarilla, where they were the "good guys"
and the Sabbat were the "bad guys" and the Independents were, er, the "ugly
guys". Now, there's a much greyer area about who's "right".
But a lack of Cam vampires in new sets altogether, to me, seems to imply that
the Camarilla has given up on things, and they're letting everyone else duke
it out.
So let's hope that Final Nights (or, at least, The Third Expansion) has a
significant Camarilla presence, for those people who are just discovering the
game and don't feel like ebaying or ordering booster boxes for the older sets.
Thankfully, however, Jyhad hasn't gone the way of Magic, flat-out banning
older expansions in Tournament play. So, realistically, this should never
present a problem...
It would just be nice to have a constant 'base set' with core cards and core
vampires that you can always count on seeing, and that is accessible to
everyone, and that is always "in print", regardless of the current expansion
(allowing for rule updates, card rotations, etc, as well).

I second that. It would be the best thing for the game. An
always-available base-set is the thing that new players need to get
involved into the game.
Also, IMO, a very good thing would be to have pre-constructed starters
of *all* clans readily available at any given time. This way new players
can just say "ok, I try it out. Which clan looks best to me? Oh yes,
i'll take this Gangrel deck to start with."
Also, it's fun for casual players to have one of each pre-constructed
decks. They don't need to tweak decks every time and still have fun with
a wide variety of available decks to play... :)
