Yes, you heard me right. The Press release is on the WotC web page.
This may explain the slow-down on all non-magic products this year. I
wonder what this means for VTES and the other smaller products now.

Please note that this deal is at the Letter of Intent stage only. The deal
is not expected to close until mid-May. There will be another press
release when (and if) the deal closes.

It probably means that we will never see another expansion because now
they have a whole other bunch of product that will come beofre Vtes if
they continue to carry it, what i would like to see is a company like FRP
take control of Vtes then we would see something get done and done
properly , but I doubt FRP would want such a fumbled product.

It means it can pick up all of TSR's games, try to Magicize them, and
when the players of the game make a fuss about it, they can slow down
and eventually phase out the games. Hope no one really likes anything
made by TSR... if this (WotC buying TSR, that is) is true, the games
are probably on death row.
Andy (a perturbed V:TES fan)
Well, I'm guessing that it means that WotC have gone mad. I mean why
bother to drop all of your other lines (RPGs) to concentrate on the
Deckmaster games, when all you're going to do is just buy someone else's
RPGs.
On the grounds that they have gone mad, they will probably drop V:TES and
all of it's expansions and integrate AD&D and Magic so that all spells
and combat resolve by having a quick game of Magic (*shudders in horror*)
Alternatively, being as it is April, it could be an April Fool's joke
that WotC forgot to put out at the right time (unlikely).
However, if they do stop Jyhad, then that's a right pain in the arse. We
can't get any more new expansions.
Anyway, it's not like we haven't been expecting it.
How much support does Magic get from WotC? Truckloads. DCI sanctioned
tournaments, Duelist, hundreds of expansions etc.
How much support does V:TES get from WotC? Very little. One DCI
sanctioned tournament in a blue moon, the occassional article in Duelist
(which might as well stop being the WotC card magazine and just tell the
truth - the Magic magazine) and three expansions.

I would have to agree with you Errol, that if Five Rings Publishing
picked up Jyhad, that would be the most cool thing ever. Do not count
out the possibility either. Dave Williams (I think that's his name)
loved Jyhad when it first came out, in fact winning the first ever
tournament of Jyhad when held at Strategicon here in LA. Dave is the
man and the mind behind L5R, and as such no doubt holds much power at
FRP. However, your point about V:TES being fumbled is also a good one,
particularly the move WotC made re: cardbacks. I hope that they do pick
it up, but who can say?

Hi Andy, Lets face it the only thing I feel TSR has put out worth buying
was 2nd Edtn, and mabe spelljammer, Dark Sun was good only because of
Brom other wise it was poorly put together, and they were dead as soon as
ccg's came out.

Hi Robert, Keep in mind that L5R and Rage are VERY similar games in
design and concept, card limits, although they have completely different
art, characters etc the leap for FRP to take on Rage is a rather small
one. Jyhad\Vtes has probably the same kind of Fanatical followers much
like L5R does.

FRP's Web page makes mention of an agreement between FRP and White Wolf
that allows FRP to control the production, marketing, etc. of Rage. The
White Wolf connection certainly makes FRP a decent candidate to take
VTES over in that they already have a relationship with White Wolf.
Licensing VTES to FRP doesn't seem like such a leap in light of this
information. Also, FRP's taking over of Rage means that FRP is not
against working on products that have previously failed. Interesting...

I don't think I could disagree more with this statement.

Well, maybe if enough people got in touch with this Dave Williams or Five
Rings Publishing, they might be persuaded that there is enough interest in
Jyhad (or V:TES if you prefer) to make it worth their while. It might be
fumbled, but it is still a great game. So if anyone knows how to get in
touch with them, pass the details on and lets do some persuading.#

Dave Williams email address is Sha...@aol.com. This is somewhat
unconfirmed in that I received no response but this is the mail address
that FRPG provided when I called them. If you prefer to make a phone
call, Dave Williams is in the California office at (909) 390-5444.

I emailed Shadis2, and got the following reply (not from Dave Williams).
I've added a few comments - couldn't resist. Any thoughts??
I'm sorry to have to break the news to you, while I agree with your
opinion of the Jyhad game (ie its great :-) ), this is still a business,
and the following of the Jyhad game doesn't really move enough (and that,
it seems is the crux of this matter.) It may have been the fault
of WOTC,( umm - i guess he's being diplomatic when he states "may have
been" !) but truth is they promoted as long as they thought it would sell,
and now it no longer sells. Also, the game was broken from the start
(??), and there seemed to be little effort to make it a balanced game. I
don't see any resurrection in the near future, by Five Rings Publishing or
any other company. Perhaps you would be interested in playing Legend Of
The Five Rings instead? (edited blurb about L5Rings. I already play, but
prefer Jyhad.)
