Had a player last night try to play 'prevent x damage' cards, skin of steel in particular, when there was no damage to prevent. It was my understanding that without damage to prevent, you cannot play damage prevention cards. Correct? (found nothing relevant on google so far) T

It's true if you've got a super-focused deck that is supposed to do what it does, oust the prey, and damned be the predator FULL SPEED AHEAD!!!! But if you enjoy toolboxy decks and prefer to fuddle with other people's strategies, you will find yourself having to discard perfectly good cards simply based on the type of deck your neighbors are playing. By the logic of the quote above, a Malkavian Dementia card is ONLY useful in decks with Derange. As I pointed out, this becomes an *active* combination rather than a *reactive* one. I've no argument with those who say that focused, active decks are more likely to win. But they don't always win, and toolboxiness has its place in the universe. And toolbox decks often have to discard. -Legendre

Even in a relatively focused deck, you're going to run into situations where a certain card is worthless. A simple example is if you draw a deflection when there are only two players left in the game. I don't know, guess I just disagree. Maybe I'm just not good at making focused decks.
