Relevant card text: Jack of Both Sides. 1 blood +2 stealth action, requires a ready vampire. Equip or employ an equipment or a retainer from your hand. The cost of that card is reduced by 1 pool or by up to 2 blood. This question came up during our pre-release: Do you have to announce what the equipment or retainer is when you play Jack of Both Sides? And if so, if Jack is blocked, is that equipment or retainer card lost as well? -John Flournoy

Precedent on Charming Lobby is you have to declare, but not play, the card, so you don't lose it if blocked. --Colin McGuigan

[ quoted text not captured ] That's what we ruled at the time (as you well know, being in that game and agreeing with the ruling). But, since Charming Lobby and Jack of Both Sides are not quite worded alike... Charming lobby: This vampire calls a referendum (play from hand)... Jack of Both Sides: Equip or employ an equipment or a retainer from your hand... If Jack were worded "This vampire equips or employs" etc, there'd be no question it's analagous to Charming Lobby. We assumed it still was, but can't hurt to ask. > --Colin McGuigan -John Flournoy
