I would like to know if someone can escape my Trap card with just a single
press to end combat? The Trap says 'combat automatically has a press', is
that only one press or always has a press to counter any attempts to escape?

Each round of combat has a press to continue combat(with some
unrelated conditions). If someone plays a press to end, combat's over before
you have another round to get a press in. If you cancel their press to end,
then you trap still hangs around for future fun :).

Yes to the first.
Each round automatically has one press to continue combat.
A single, unaswered press to end combat will end the process,
although a second press to continue may be played (leading
to three more rounds, unless more cards are played).

Every round has a press which may be cancelled with a press to end to
escape the trap ( up to the three round limit after the last card has
been played). However, you may press to continue combat to cancel the
press to end combat, causing the trap to continue.
