Name: Brinksmanship [Anarchs:R] Cardtype: Political Action Cost: 1 pool Political Card - Worth 1 Vote. Called by any vampire at +1 stealth. If this referendum is successful, put this card in play. Any Methuselah who has exhausted his or her library and begins his or her untap phase with less than a full hand must attempt to withdraw. On that Methuselah's next untap phase, if the withdrawal fails, that Methuselah is ousted. If any Methuselah successfully withdraws, you are ousted. Methuselah A has put a Brinksmanship in play. Methuselah B (A's prey) has exhausted his library and begins his untap phase with less than a full hand. Can Methuselah B take actions that would not allow him to withdraw (such as entering combat to torporize a vampire, who has a Fame on, controlled by his prey, with just 3 pool left)? Greetings, Damnans

Yes, he can take actions that would cause his withdrawal attempt to fail. He can also pay pool for master cards or other things. The attempt is mandatory. He isn't obliged to do everything in his power to make the attempt succeed. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. One might even argue that in some situations Meth B is required to do so, by Game Win/Max VP rules. Technically, the statement "must attempt to withdraw" in Brinksmanship's wording could also be phrased, "must declare an attempt to withdraw" to be clearer. In other words, Brinksmanship requires that you begin the process as outlined in section 9.2 of the rules, but it does not require you to make every effort to see the withdrawal succeed. (That would be largely unenforceable.) Eric Simon Prince of Chicago

(That would be largely > unenforceable.) Similarly, if you have an empty Ravnos (crazy, eh?), and an untapped Rom Gypsy, the Ravnos must attempt to hunt. You are not obliged to tap the Gypsy for stealth to avoid a block. Or if you have Spirit Marionette'd a vampire who has a Marked Path against your prey - that vampire must attempt to bleed, but he is not obliged to burn the Marked Path. [ quoted text not captured ]
