No rares in EK boosters?!?

Hi all, I was happily opening my shiny new Ebony Kingdom boosters, when happiness turned into sadness and surprise... I had previously opened half of a box that I shared with a friend, finding the usual optimal distribution typical of small sets. However, when I turned to the next box, I found out that several boosters contained NO rares at all (either 2 commons or 1 common + 1 Aye/Orun in the 2 possible "rare slots"). I noticed that the "unwanted" additional commons were always either Brutal Influence or My Kin Against the World. After opening half a box, namely 18 boosters, and finding that NINE of them did not contain any rares, I stopped, leaving the second half of the box unopened. 50% of the boosters in half a box without a rare?!? Was anyone else similarly screwed? Emiliano

Hi Emiliano I opened an Ebony kingdom boosters box and i found 14 boosters without rare card. Instead of the rare card i found a copy of "Brutal influence" or "My Kin Against the World" or "aye/orun" or "pallid". I'm very angry. [ quoted text not captured ]

Even thou i'm not from WW, to give you a straight answer, here is my opinion of what might have happened to you (and that also happened to me). I open up a box of EK boosters and i also thought it didn't have any rares, but then, after opening all boosters, i found out the distribution on my box was: 4 common, 3 uncommon (vampires), 1 rare, 3 common. After i got home i check the rarity of those cards and i was right. Probably they altered the "distribution" on the boosters. I think that in 3rd Ed ou LotN, the rare was the first one. So it's just a question of order. Fell free to check the amounts of cards you have and look at their rarity, you might find i'm right. Ricardo Marta Prince of Lisboa Portugal

[ quoted text not captured ] Yes, especially since you (original post and one or two who concurred) mention Brutal Influence, My Kin Against the World and Aye/Orun, which were the commons that correctly occupied the last place in the pack, I'm convinced you're looking in the wrong place for the rare. It was just behind the vampires. The rarity order in a pack is CCCCVVVRCCC.

[ quoted text not captured ] As mentioned, the last card in the pack is *NOT* the rare card in this set. It is always one of 4 cards: Brutal Influence, My Kin Against the World, Aye, or Orun. You will find the rare immediately after the vampires. Check it out against the list on WW. Now, if you received Brutal Influence in the slot right after the vampire, then you have a legit beef. I'd hate for retailers and WW to issue mass replacements to people when it isn't necessary. best - chris

[ quoted text not captured ] Oscar, Do you think you should use the NG and the WW forum as a place to mention that the card order in the packs (based on rarity) is different in this set than folks might be expecting? best - chris

[ quoted text not captured ] Dude, do you think I am an idiot? I know how to read. I know how to count. NO rares means NO rares. Thanks for the confidence, Emiliano PS More seriously, thanks a lot Johannes and Oscar for the useful answers.

[ quoted text not captured ] He was actually offering constructive comments (in his other response) and a helpful suggestion (in this one), with no implication good or ill of your or anyone else's intelligence or counting ability.

[ quoted text not captured ] Did anyone say that? Relax, man, jeez. I don't think it was a weird thing at all to suggest that some people (not even you personally!) might've overlooked something. And that mentioning this when a change in distribution happens, might be a good idea. I know tons of CCG players who, when opening boosters, only check the first or last card (whatever the 'regular' rare slot for the game might be) at first, and put rest of the pack aside for later.

Malone schrieb: [ quoted text not captured ] Not really. We have documented cases where definitely the rare slot is either missing or occupied by something else. At least, if your boosters are correct, thats not a general problem.

Emiliano Imeroni

[ quoted text not captured ] Scott is right. I am sorry, Chris, please accept my apologies. I completely misunderstood the sense of your two posts, and my reaction was rude and unjustifiable. Apparently I canNOT read so well after all... ;-) In any case, to everyone who suggested I may have missed the rare because of the order of cards in boosters, I assure you that it is not the case. 9 boosters I opened (out of 18 of a half box) contained no rare at all. My friend Luc-Olivier, who received another box out of the same shipment, found no rare card in 10 out of the 36 boosters in the box. The third box of the shipment, which we shared, was instead perfectly ok. Thanks again to all the people who offered assistance, Emiliano

And I know the order has changed, and I've checked thoroughly the checklist (and even the ardb). An example of booster I have here after checking once more : Dusk Work- Tunnel Runner-Jua Vema-Unholy Radiance-Abu Nuwasi-Aisata Sanou-Abiku- My Kin Against the World-Invoke Poison Glands-Pallid-Aye. No rare. And if I quite remember, the My Kin Against the World was upside-down. And following your order (CCCCVVVRCCC), this should have been the rare. I'll bring that box tomorrow in Germany to show it to Johannes. ;) Thank you, -Luke-
