A sensible question about First Tradition

In order to get away from the hijacked thread, and my $5 question about Madness, here's a quite simple question about First Tradition: If you have played Malkavian Dementia, and you are presented with the choice of taking your turn or not due to First Trad in play, do you still return the stolen Malk even if you choose not to take your turn? Similarly, do you replace "do not replace until your next untap phase" cards before you make the choice? If you have attempted to withdraw, and have met the conditions, do you succeed at withdrawing before making the choice? Thanks.
