At 9:00 last night I got my Sabbat cards. A guy from a store in Pasadena drove to his distributor at about 7:00 PM last night and picked them up! Well since I actually have the cards and many of you are just reading the spoiler I'll comment on the look. WOW! I'm just blown away by the art. Great package design and the cards are beautiful. It is just plain freakish to pick up a booster with almost 30 cards in it. Overall I'm pleased with the set. They seem to have taken a lot more care with the wording of some cards and even took the time to make some reprinted cards more clear. HOWEVER, I am finding that the game is degenerating into a game of trumps! They added (another) OOT Master that can be used as defense against some more of the offensive trumps. [SARCASM ON] Thanks guys. That's just what we wanted. [SARCASM OFF] OK now to some card comments. I see that many of you are studying carefully before commenting but I think I'm ready with a few now. THE TREMERE CONSPIRACY! ======================= It's true, there is a conspiracy. _Shotgun Ritual_ is as we expected. Pay 2 blood to do a second round strike in the first round. Next is _Eldritch Glimmer_:Thaum, Strike. Inferior 2R Damage AND can burn X blood for +X damage. The superior starts at 4R damage. There are many more to add. Take a look at Reverend Blackwood for example. I'll let others add to this list becuase I'm at work and can't do this all day. UNBLOCKABILITY! =============== An alarming trend first begun with Horrific Countenance. In the beginning there was only Day Operation. Now they've added Walk Through Arcardia. A Malkavian Action Modifier. Costs 1 blood to play. Text is: "Flip a Coin. If it comes up heads, this action is _unblockable_. If it comes up tales the Malk. takes one unpreventable damage." Are they insane. 1 damage is no risk at all. We don't even get the advantage of trying to jam the Malk bleeder by not letting him cycle his stealth. This can be played at will. There is also an equipment that can be used once to make an action ublockable. I think there is also another modifier somewhere in this damn list. Anyway, this is really getting sick. Enough of the unblockable crap! COMBAT! ======= Heavy combat influence. That seems fine to me. I think combat needed the boost. SUBTLETY! ========= I've always been in favor of this one. Many of the cards are slight variations of Jyhad cards. Forced Awakening and Redirection are 2 good examples. When mixing sets we'll be debating whether the lack of cost of Redirection is worth the restrictions on when it can be played. I'll probably continue using wakes and will mix in Forced Awakenings also. ATTACKS ON MASTER CARDS! ======================== Ok, so this is a small one and not that big a deal. But it bugs me. Master Cards are often necessary to fix some of the basic inequities of the vamps created for each clan as well as allowing some of the more creative decks to be made. This has just gotten more difficult to do. ERRORS! ====== White Phosphorus Grenade. Weapon: Burn After _USE_. Does 2R aggravated _EACH STRIKE_. How do you do additional strikes? It should burn after the first one is resolved. Shouldn't it? Ok that's all for now. But I'll be back! I hope you enjoy the art. IMHO, after scrutinizing the spoiler list, Sabbat is a load of .... silly trump cards that destroy game balance and pushess *many* previously viable strategies to the asheap. Does anyone think that Settites can ever survive and prosper? So gaze at the cards, appreciate the art, and lock them up somewhere. The people that I play with will gladly ignore this expansion and play the old game. Sean (aka Scott) Whittaker

Except that the pre-existing collections of Jyhad cards are now the wallpaper. However, I would still advise any self-respecting player to go ahead if they feel like buying Sabbat: just play it seperately, or better yet, collect a set and wallpaper your room with it. At least it'll be unusual decor... Sean Whittaker

Because they can now *almost* stop the Sideslip-Blur-Death of My Concience loop of the Brujah? Sure, you can Thoughts Betrayed, but now you are talking about pruning your Tremere deck into an entirely unhealthy reliance upon combat. It'll sure hurt when someone votes at you... > UNBLOCKABILITY! > =============== > An alarming trend first begun with Horrific Countenance. In the > beginning there was only Day Operation. Dementation is a slightly different discipline, and should be looked at that way. As for your assertion that `first there was Day Operation' : I suggest you amend that to: First we were able to recycle our Ghoul Escorts with the Giovani. > SUBTLETY! > ========= > I've always been in favor of this one. This has just gotten more difficult to do. This was already possable in Ancient Hearts. > ERRORS! > ====== > > White Phosphorus Grenade. Weapon: Burn After _USE_. Does 2R aggravated > _EACH STRIKE_. How do you do additional strikes? It should burn after > the first one is resolved. Shouldn't it? When burned after use, it is burned after the first strike resolution. As such, it isn't going to be there during the next Choose Strike phase, and no error was made. The wording sounds clumsy, because they were trying to unify card text and have all cards use the same wording conventions. > Robert Ritaxis

Theat means it keeps doing damage even though it was burnt.

Nothing in the asheap affects anything (except the size of the asheap :-) Much more card text is required to make the WPG function as you suggest. [ quoted text not captured ]

The fact the it keeps on burning (ie doing more damage) should be related to how long the vampire is exposed to the effects of the grenade. Loy.

My take on the 2R - Aggravated each strike is based on the WOTC ruling that if someone decides to use a Bomb or Grenade in combat, and your opponent uses S:CE or Dodge, then the Bomb or Grenade wasn't used (as there was no actual target/excuse to use the weapon). Now lets say I'm using the White Phosphorous grenade and my opponent tries to use a dodge. I could then blur for an additional strike to use the WP:Grenade to full effect. Hmmm, in hindsight then you really wouldn't need the errata on the card. Though for those who might not be aware of the ruling, it would probably help others determine something similar to what I described above. - Bernie [ quoted text not captured ]
