Okay...this is an idea that Noal & I have been kicking around. And I've been
testing it (not too successfully so far...) under my theories about the way
the deck should work. But after thinking it over, Noal's right. Obf/Ani
works much better than Aus/Ani.
Here goes my version under Obf/Ani
Crypt: (not going to bother listing everything, just the names...they're
going to be big...) Calebos Ebanezer Roush Cailean Samantha Anton Dani Josef
Kendrick Sebastian Marley Basilia Panagos Levidis Nigel the Shunned
Average: not good Max: 40 (? I think...maybe 38)
Library: 90 (it could use more obfuscate, after the fact...maybe Hidden
Lurkers...)
Masters (19) 3x Animalism skill card 3x Obfuscate skill card 2x Heidelburg
Castle (could use more, but that's all I have...in JOL I have 5/120) 4x Blood
Doll 1x Using the Advantage 1x Nosferatu Kingdom 1x Hungry Coyote 1x The Rack
1x Fragment of the Book of Nod 1x Shantytown HG 1x Labyrhinth (a little
scatter-shot perhaps...)
Action cards (14)
4x Atonement
3x Bum's Rush
1x Ambush
2x Clan Impersonation
2x Army of Rats
2x Shepherd's Innocence
Action Modifiers (19)
6x Lost in Crowds
4x Faceless Night
4x Dirty Little Secrets
5x Spying Mission
Retainers (21)
3x Murder of Crows
18x Raptor (20% of the deck...)
Combat (7) --maybe it would be better to do without this, but...
3x Song of Serenity
4x Carrion Crows
Reaction (10)
6x Wake With Evening's Freshness
4x Delaying Tactics
Well...the object of this deck...kinda screwy...is to intercept a bunch of
stuff & make sure that you get into combat...and then have at least 7 Raptors
on your minion in combat. It's the new Thoughts Betrayed!!! Of course, I
find it a *lot* less objectionable because it's so damn hard to pull off...
You could throw in a few Atonement to deal with weenies if you wanted...the
Bum's Rushes are to attack hostile voters mainly...use Delaying Tactics to
stop a really awful vote, then Bum's Rush on your turn...with all the Raptors
you've got, at least that vote goes away. Not horribly workable unless the
WVP deck is your predator, in which case, you don't rush, just intercept with
Atonements...
Primarily, of course, you want to intercept your prey. The Obfuscate is not
for the bleeding, but for when you employ the retainers...bleed at no
stealth, and dare them to block you. Eventually, you should be able to
really downgrade the effectiveness of your prey's deck, no matter what their
strategy is. And most predators (once you get rolling...I know...) are going
to get shut down with all that permanent intercept and no way to get rid of
it...
I wanted to include more 'D steal me' locations, but deck size got me...
Yeah, Tigersclaw, Madpoet, Droz, and Xavier Abad, if you're reading
this...JOL90 & JOL84 I'm testing the Ani/Aus version...
Finally, about the crypt. I've decided to include lots more big vampires
(hmm...maybe I should put in more Nigel for the Atonements....and he's got
the disciplines...) because of the blood requirements for the Raptors, and
Animalism is really required at superior. I didn't feel like putting in 6-8
Animalism skill cards...though it could be done, I suppose...crypt
suggestions would be most welcome. Actually, any suggestions except telling
me that this deck is too slow would be helpful...
Xian...I do this to amuse myself...

What are the Impersonations for? Somehow I can't figure out how they do
anything useful - maybe for getting out clan locations? I don't think
that's real worthwhile, if so... I'd use a couple more Rushes instead,
or untaps.

I'm very skeptical about the Dirty Little Secrets. I think Raptors are a
vastly more efficient method of blowing up people's decks.
I don't think much of Spying Mission lately either. The way I see it, you
get +2 bleed later for getting -1 bleed now. In other words, it's just
like playing a Computer Hacking over the two actions (3 bleed in 2 actions)
except that the Hacking can be used on either bleed, whereas Mission has
to be used on the first one. The only redeeming quality I see in Mission
is that it can also be used for stealth, which may make it usable here
since you also need stealth for recruit actions.

Oh, one of *those* decks... ^_^
So I'm curious, how hard is it/how long does it take to actually get seven
Raptors onto a vampire? I mean 14 blood and 7 actions, that's nothing to
sneeze at, is it...
> Combat (7) --maybe it would be better to do without this, but...

I probably wouldn't bother with these. If you want to have some combat
ability beyond Raptors and Crows, maybe throw in some Canine Hordes or
Bats (as in Aid From), or maybe Thrown Gates - any of those would have
the potential for killing opposing retainers as well as random handiness.

I'm thinking maybe it would be wise to have more untaps? With +7 intercept
you should be pretty well able to block just about anything, but only once
a turn unless you untap, move the Raptors with Heidelberg, or have someone
with Atonement blocking smaller guys. You could use Guard Dogs (maneuver)
or Rat's Warning (press), or even Cat's Guidance, in addition to Wakes.
(I would think Forced Awakening's 'drawback' would also be good in this
deck compared to the current 'do not replace for a really long time' Wake,
if you're playing by those rules.)

That's pretty hilarious. What's that in your hand? A Conservative Agitation?
Well, we'll just have to do something about that.
I was going to suggest Owl Companions for the humor value, but then I
realized it wouldn't be very efficient to look at people's hands when that
same vampire could be making them ditch the hand...
It might be amusing to try and reconstitute this along the Wynn-Wynn deck
lines - get seven Raptors on Wynn and then Freaky Rush people to exhaust
their decks.

Ok baby. Three words. Aid. From. Bats. That card kicks ass in the
appropriate deck. It's a manuver, a point of damage, and a press, all in one.
This deck isn't really trying to hurt anyone, just make them lose all their
cards. You get into a fight, Bat them, and be done with it. I'd lose all of
the above, dig up a bit more room, and put in, like, 10-12 Aid from Bats.
This deck, again, is hysterical. I think it's your gift. Your curse.

Ahh...Impersonate for Dirty Little Secrets...with Spying Mission...which
seems to be the stuff you have the most problems with...and thinking about
it, you may be right...I could pull it all and have about 12 more card slots?
Hmm...they were mainly in there to induce people into blocking...there's not
a lot of rush in this deck as is...maybe more Atonement, more Ani cards, and
more rush...

Umm...as mentioned, I'm doing the Ani/Aus on JOL...of course, I've only made
it to turn 6 in one game...it's almost my turn 4.1 (That's turn four, me in
seat 1) in the other...and I've been having major crypt trouble in the first
game. Stupid not getting anyone with ANI...and both copies of Dr. Jest...
Anyway, I *just* decided to bring out my first Raptor in the first
game...better now than never. And LSJ, if your're reading this, one thing
I've always been unclear on...do retainers "remember" who recruited them? Or
if the minion they're currently on has superior of the discipline, do they go
with that? Also, just thought of this...Obedience could still be played,
couldn't it...it's actually pre-combat...just barely, right?
In the second game, I will be bringing out someone with ANI, and first action
should be to recruit a Raptor. So to answer your question, I have no idea.
I haven't played any game long enough. And I'm starting to think I need to
do weenies with lots of Ani skill cards...I didn't want to at first, because
I always have abominable luck with skill cards...never there when I need
them, and always filling up my hand when I've got all superiors on the
table...

Ooooh...I like that...+maneuver would be optimal, as you now need to be at
range to kill opposing retainers...wow...this could be the evilness that an
Aid from Bats deck was meant to be!

Probably...I thought the 6 Wakes + 6 Cat's Guidance might be enough...but you

Cats didn't I? Maybe that's why it added up short the first time I

I wish there was a way I could move them again...that would be the
best...maybe I should make it a small 'uns (my new turn for not quite weenie,
but less than 6 or so...the 3-5 range) with Alexandra and Clan Impersonate
them all to Toreador so that I can get 3 actions...plus any additional
Raptors...naah... that'd be impractical...
> with Atonement blocking smaller guys. You could use Guard Dogs (maneuver)

I don't like the "only vs. bleed" aspect of the first two...not useful enough
in my opinion...especially against vote or rush...

(Trying to play by all the new rules...meeting with some complaints...) FA
would be good except for the part about this deck not needing to blow more
blood...and I don't need to play anything during combat for the most
part...so Wake isn't all that bad...

I should put a couple more in, shouldn't I...I really meant some way without
tapping *another* minion (like another Heidelburg Castle style thingy...),
though with ANI, it wouldn't be that bad if I had about 4-5 minions out...1
take an action, 2 Shepherd's Innocence, 3 action, 4 gets via Heidelburg,
action, has Atonement, Wakes/Cat's Guidances...nifty...that would do it...

Oh, thousands at least. No, actually I've never seen one in 'real life',

Lasombra reposted a reference to it.

Do you mean, Obedience after Raptor-effect? Or before? Looks to me like
Obedience will happen before Raptor, as Raptor's effect kicks in 'when the
minion controlling this retainer is in combat'. (And I think retainers
will not change their life when transferred to a new controller - ie they
do 'remember' - but of course IANALSJ.)

Man, that only vs bleed just screws you up sometimes. Especially when you're
not thinking. Last night I was playing my new standard Gangrel Force of Will
loop bleed deck, and had Badger tapped with two Raven Spies... Lucian
came in to bleed with a Flamethrower and I didn't untap with my Guard Dogs
because I didn't want to block anyway, and figured I could always untap
on the next bleed... so Ozmo came over to steal a Raven Spy with Far Mastery.

But FA only makes you burn a blood if you fail to block, and with the
Raptors you shouldn't have a problem with failing. And FA replaces
immediately all the time, which is nice. I'd play more of them in my
Tremere intercept deck if I had more than three.

Ah, you see, humor value is prized highly back in Ithaca, and as a number of
us (used to) play there, we all say it. A clever deck or plan is almost
always 'hilarious'. Cryptic Mission/Society of Leopold is hilarious.
Pulse of the Canaille/7 Raptors is hilarious. Return to Innocence/Horrific
Countenance is not hilarious.

Retainers do not remember who employed them, no.
But a Retainer's life is set (he is given life counters) when he is employed.
[6.1.4] [RTR 09-NOV-94]
If his employer loses a (level of) discipline or gains a (level of)
discipline, the retainers life is unaffected. If the retainer is transferred
to a different minion, his life is unaffected, regardless of the level or
variety of the new minion's disciplines.

Yup...exactly why I rarely play with them. In this deck it might be okay,
mainly because S&B is the only thing that often uses heavy stealth in my

rare...except stealth/vote...but *anyway* I'd just prefer to have more

Makes sense...sometimes these days, I wish I had gone to RPI...that's in or
near Ithaca, isn't it? Of course...I'm no longer interested in aerospace, and
I'm glad I went to a normal university instead...

Yup. Well...transplanted. Originally from Madison. Speaking of which, I'll
probably mention this again, but I'm almost 100% certain I'll be going home
for Christmas...or around thereabouts...and certainly wouldn't mind getting
together for Jyhad with anyone in the area...

RPI is Rochester Polytechnic, yeah? So that'd be in Rochester, about an
hour away from Ithaca. Which is theoretically not that far, but oddly enough
people from Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo almost never seemed to show up for
Ithaca Jyhad games. Maybe they just didn't read the newsgroup.

Madison, eh? As you probably already know, James Hamblin and Adrian Sullivan
reside in Madison, although from what I hear they haven't been playing that
much Jyhad lately. And then, they may be going elsewhere for Christmas as
well. Myself, I'll be in Minnesota. Ah, the confusion. ^_-

Silly boy. There are two ways. Heidelburgh Castle and Shep. Inn. and youalready
have one of them in there.
