Two vampire in combat. Combat goes a second round, range is close. Acting vampire plays Majesty and chooses to untap, leaving him at 1 Blood left. Reacting vampire plays Riposte and should inflicts him two unpreventable damage. Acting vampire does suffer the damage ? i guess yes Acting vampire goes to torpor, untapped ? i guess yes When playing majesty, can he wait until opponent played his strike to choos whether or not to untap ? i think not... If reacting vampire is Watenda, using his special ability to cancel the superior Majesty -then, majesty is cancelled, combat doesn't end, but is the blood is paid, since it's an "optionnal" cost ? -i wonder... please help me with this ! reyda

It doesn't matter whether or not it is an optional cost. The effect of the card is cancelled, the card is not cancelled, although another strike card may be played. Any blood played by the minion who originally played the card is still payed, and is not returned by Watenda's ability. Watenda's card text: "Watenda (Ancient Hearts) 3 -- obf -- Malkavian Once each combat, Watenda can cancel the effect of a combat card played by an opposing minion by burning an amount of blood equal to the cost of the card. If the card is a strike card, the opposing minion may choose a new strike." Carpe Noctem. Lasombra http://whitestar.ddg.com/thelasombra Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Yes, due to the "may" wording of superior. He chooses his strike: superior Majesty. His opponent chooses his strike: superior Riposte strikes resolve (simultaneously, since both are S:CE): *) combat ends *) he may burn one blood to untap *) he takes two unpreventable damage once combat ends > If reacting vampire is Watenda, using his special ability to cancel the > superior Majesty -then, majesty is cancelled, combat doesn't end, but is the > blood is paid, since it's an "optionnal" cost ? -i wonder... No blood is (or can be) burned to untap with a canceled majesty. (And it is not a cost, although that doesn't affect the result here) -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
