Season 2 of our highly-enjoyable Sabbat sealed-deck league begins on Wednesday the 21st of April at Second Byte, 70B Albert Rd, Portsmouth. Tel +44 [(0)1705] 787 222, start as near to 630pm as we can make it. 10GBP buys you a whole summer's worth of bloodsucking fun, brothers and sisters! i dunno the status of John's attempts to get Wizards/White Wolf recognition for this, but he is a dam' persuasive sort of fellow. Now that we know we have been doing the Sabbat withdrawal thing wrong we will have to hold a local judges meeting to decide whether we are going to abide by the DCI ruling, or branch out a la MJL on this one. I'll let you all know what we decide before the league starts. 24th of April is the date for this month's constructed deck tournament. Nothing unusual about this AFAIK. Start is 11am, current DCI rules apply*, entry is 3GBP, 3 heats of 2 hours each and a final of unlimited time. London players, it is actually easier for you to come to these than you think - there is a railway station [Fratton] on the line from Waterloo about 5 minutes' walk from the shop. Gimme an email if you want directions from there. Europeans, more of you should emulate the Heroic Michael Beer who regularly catches the ferry to Portsmouth in order to wreak havoc amongst us. It's cheap, y'know, thanks to the Tunnel competition, you just get a foot-passenger ticket and then give me a ring and i will pick you up, or if you are feeling brave you can just walk there. i hope David Tatu who is over from Atlanta will be able to rearrange his meetings and participate in this one. He is a dam' fine player and all-round good fellow AND [sisters] last i heard he was unmarried!!!! On the downside, he DID have a beard. And of course apart from us pompey boyz and girlz there will be all the usual old reprobates [believed to be a reference to the Hated Coupe, the Vile Green and the Despicable Southampton Posse] and doubtless the usual smattering of shiny new players [who might include Michael the Pocket-money Thrall of Legbiter: he has been asking whether he can play in a tournament] just ITCHING to be ousted in 3 turns flat. They love it, you know .... and the same is true of foxes and pheasants, whatever the tree-huggers may allege to the contrary. *Just in case anyone was taken in, that stuff at the beginning of my April newsletter WAS a spoof, which means you WILL get disqualified for putting Monocle of Clarity into your deck, even if you DO have photographic proof that i have been shagging your wife during the game. -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own

The DCI rules have always used the "standard" withdrawal rules (run out of cards, start with a less-than-full-hand, announce your intention to withdraw, survive until your next untap without losing any blood/pool, etc.) -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) VTES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. From my point of view, I can see merit in both sides of the argument, as to whether it should be immediate or slower. The only thing is, it goes slower, there's nothing FORCING you to abide by your attempt, making it kind of useless. -- James Coupe (Prince of Mercia, England) Vampire: Elder Kindred Network http://madnessnetwork.hexagon.net http://www.obeah.demon.co.uk

That makes things MUCH easier, since you know how much i HATE to disobey you. OK, in the Portsmouth Sabbat League [which is unofficial] there is a local rule about withdrawing. It is as follows: If you start a turn without a full hand, and your library is empty, you are compelled to attempt to withdraw. This means your vampires can take no actions. If they must hunt, they go to torpor instead. Your withdrawal attempt succeeds if you lose neither pool nor blood from your vampires between the untap where you announce your withdrawal attempt, and your next untap. If withdrawal succeeds, you keep your ante but gain no VP; and your predator gains no VP for ousting you, either. If it fails, you must try again on your next turn. This local rule works well, BTW - we have been playing it in the blissfully erroneous belief that it was the right interpretation of the sabbat withdrawal rule for the last two years. If/when we get an official format for leagues and sealed decks and stuff [a set of official rules about sealed-deck duels would be nice, IMO: and i recommend the Dortmund rules as explained to me by Michael Beer] we will change it, but quite honestly it is not worth our playgroup's while to learn a new rule until that happens.
