Hey, folks, I just got the Origins pre-reg booklet and I can find only two V:tES events. What's going on here?? There were at least 3, maybe 4, last year. And there's no draft or sealed event either, just a standard tournament Friday and another Saturday. This is certainly a discouraging note! I had understood that this game was undergoing a renaissance!! The draft and the sealed attract the occasional player and was, for example, the only types of tournaments I would play in for several years. If no one has anything planned, I would be happy to host a draft event on Thursday. Since I'm the one running the events, I guess I should answer. :) The Origins tournament that begins at 2pm on Friday is a normal, standard, sanctioned event. The Origins tournament that begins at 2pm on Saturday is the regional qualifier for the North American Championship, which will be hosted at GenCon 2001. > This is certainly a discouraging note! You may not be able to, even if you want to. In the past, Origins has frowned on people running events without submitting them as an official Origins event, so that Origins can get their "cut". I can certainly ask White Wolf (i.e. LSJ) to give me permission to run a draft event on Thursday as an official Origins event. What they would provide as product to draft with, however, I cannot say. > > Madman the discouraged Don't be discouraged. I'll try to get a draft event in there on Thursday for you. If I do, I'll post it here for everyone so that they know the time. Kevin J. Kevin: Thanks for the response (and sorry for all multiple postings - my connection was bouncing that night). Regarding unsanctioned events, for years at Origins several Magic Old-timers and I have been scheduling private events up on the walkway. However, if we wanted to ensure that the casual or novice player had an opportunity to play, we should see about getting something official (read: in the onsite book). It just might be too late for that however. And, given the non-response to my posting, perhaps there's no demand for events other than the Friday and Saturday constructed. Dunno.
