If you have a contested vampire can either of you use a minion tap to take
the blood off the contested vampire?
Can you put blood from a hunting ground card on a vampire in torpor?
If a vampire is brought out of torpor by another vampire and it has no
blood on it, does it have to tap and hunt immediately or can it be used to
block and hunt on its next turn? This is a real problem with a vamp who
has Fame. It keeps on blocking and then keeps going to Torpor with its
prey burning three pool each time!!!!

No.
The vampires are considered out of play for all effects and purposes
until one has been yielded and then the remaining one comes back into
play on its controlers next Untap phase.
>Can you put blood from a hunting ground card on a vampire in torpor?
No. Card text specifies a ready vampire and if thier in Torpor they
are not ready. You have 3 areas for your minions. Uncontroled,
Controled which has the ready region and the torpor region which is
not ready but still controled.
Some cards such as the rack will still give a vampire in torpor blood.

It must hunt as the first/next action whenever a vampire is ready and
at 0 blood.

It must hunt as the first/next action whenever a vampire is ready and
at 0 blood.
That is not exactly correct. A vampire must hunt only when it has no
blood on it at the beginning of Minion Phase, in which case this action
must be taken before any other minion takes any other action. But as a
vampire cannot hunt in torport, and as rescue from torpor constitutes
an action, the minion recued from torpor is not required to hunt until
the next round.

How this problem came up to begin with is we have added a few new players
to our group. These people played that if a vampire is rescued from Torpor
with zero blood, it must hunt. We have always played that it would hunt
the next round and could be used to block in the round it was brought out
of Torpor by another vampire. So of course we argued about this for about
45 minutes!!!!

You're both right (sort-of). The Jyhad rulebook said that a vampire had
to hunt if they had no blood at the beginning of the minion phase. That
has now been corrected. I know that it's official that the minion will
have to hunt if at any time it is untapped and has no blood. I can't
remember whether it is in the VTES rulebook or from a ruling from Tom.

Whenever arguing comes into the matter, it is usually best to agree to
disagree for now... flip a coin, and find the ruling for the next time.
In any case, we could be playing it wrong, but what we do is the following:
Whenever you have an empty vampire, your next action must be to
hunt with it (or any other empty vampire). Of course, If you don't act,
you haven't violated that rule...
Is this wrong?

If you control at least one untapped, ready, empty vampire during your minion
phase, the vampire(s) *must* hunt before any other action can be taken,
or before you can end your minion phase. The only exception is if all
of those vampires are prohibited from hunting. So yes, if you rescue a vampire
that comes into your ready region untapped and out of blood, that vampire must
hunt before you can do anything else.

Yep. Although the minion phase is optional, it is mandatory if you have
an empty, ready vampire.
And, during your minion phase, if you have one or more empty ready vamps,
you must hunt with one of those vamps (and repeat until you have no
empty ready vamps).

This part is pretty clear, but if you rescue a vampire from
torpor who has no blood, can you do nothing instead of hunting? I believe
that is what the ruling used to be. Has this changed?

Its a question of wether being rescued from Topor taps the vampire
isn't it?
Here's what the vampire rulebook says: page 41 and 42
2) if the rescuing vampire is not blocked, the rescued vampire leaves
topor and is placed in the active region. If you are rescuing a
vampire belonging to another methuselah, the rescued vampire stays
with that methuselah. The rescued vampire does not tap or untap as a
result of leaving topor.
Ok.
ref. page 19 untapping
Note: untapping is mandatory. You must untap all of your tapped cards
during this phase.
So, if the vampire was sent to topor last turn during its action
(tapped), then it will untap this turn IN TOPOR. In the minion phase
it can attempt to come out (if it has blood enough) and be tapped by
that action, or it can be rescued. If rescued, it will be untapped
and able to take an action that turn, such as hunt. If it is rescued
with no blood on it, then it must hunt.
Follow my logic?
TOM : does this jive with you?

If I have a vampire with one blood and that blood is stolen (with a
Cryptic Mission, for example) and my predator tries to bleed me, can I
block with that vampire? We play that without blood a vampire can take
no actions (except hunting in its own minion phase) including reaction
and blocking.

I thought than when you rescued a vampire from torpor with another
vampire BOTH vampires were tapped. you can use blood from either vamp to
bring it out and you can use action modifiers from the rescuing vampire
but both vampires must be tapped. But this is what I remember from the
original Jyhad rules and this may have changed.

It is official, right Tom? The part about having to hunt before the end
of your minion phase if you have a vamp rescued from torpor with no blood
on him? Just making sure...

No. Only the rescuer taps--the rescued vampire neither taps nor untaps by
the rescue. (Torp'ed vampires untap normally, unless sent by

Note that he said during your minion phase and nothing was said about
only at the begining of it. So if at any time you have an untapped
vampire during your minion phase with 0 blood it must hunt as your
next action unless it is prohibited from hunting from another card
effect.
This could also happen from a freak drive for instance. You could not
have the minion untap from a Majesty or freak drive and bleed if it
was at 0 blood. It must hunt.

Nope, its not true.
The next time he acts he will have to hunt but he can still react as
long as he is untapped and can block or play reaxtion cards.
Alos he can play wake like cards to react.

No. A minion need only be untapped to attampt to block (barring any
further card text - like Navar or Blood Bond).

Reactions, blocking (and even action modifiers like Cloak the Gathering)
are all legal options to empty vampires. The only thing they cannot
do is any *action* other than hunting.

From the old Jhyad it was always just a matter of tapping the one who
did the rescuing, whether that was the minion in Torpor or another.

THey are gone ecept for card specific text.
No more general rules, instead refer to the card that did the job.
The new wooden stake does aggro (after the first point) but says on
the card that if the vampire goes to Torpor it stays Tapped.

Hopefully then he will reconfirm.
I too feel that this is the way it makes the most sense as a vampire
at 0 blood is really hungry. Our group has a house rule that this is
the way.

Actually, the Wooden Stake is superior to the Stake. A paralyzed vampire
could be rescued with no blood cost; the Wooden Stake does not allow that.

Wooden Stake
Melee Weapon
Minion with this equipment inflicts hand damage as a strike. If more
than 1 damage is inflicted with this weapon, all additional damage is
aggravated. If the victim is sent to torpor, transfer this card to

You had better watch it coming back at you, just like the previous
version. This version is definately deadlier though and a potence
deck can really use it effectively.
