Hello, Suzanne Kadim (1 blood) attempts to Mind Numb an untapped Jackie. 1) Some minion attempts to block and Suzanne stealth through using Elder Impersonation. Can Suzanne's controller François Villon with some more blood on him play Mask of 1000 Faces before resolution (and prevent the action from fizzling ) ? 2) Instead, Jackie plays superior Babble to untap random minion, which taps her and makes her an invalid target for Mind Numb. Can François Villon mask the action now that the target is invalid ? (He cannot play Mind Numb on tapped Jackie then "No", or he could have played MN on then-untapped-Jackie then "Yes" ? ) Thank you, François

My attempt to answer it correctly: > Suzanne Kadim (1 blood) attempts to Mind Numb an untapped Jackie. > > 1) Some minion attempts to block and Suzanne stealth through using > Elder Impersonation. Can Suzanne's controller François Villon with > some more blood on him play Mask of 1000 Faces before resolution (and > prevent the action from fizzling ) ? Yes. You can play actionmodifiers during action. The situation doesn't restrict you playing a Mask. > 2) Instead, Jackie plays superior Babble to untap random minion, which > taps her and makes her an invalid target for Mind Numb. Can François > Villon mask the action now that the target is invalid ? (He cannot > play Mind Numb on tapped Jackie then "No", or he could have played MN > on then-untapped-Jackie then "Yes" ? ) > When you announced the action it was legal, so you can attampt the action. And therefor play a mask. During the resolution of the action the target is illigal, so it fails. Am I right? Gr, Oortje

[ quoted text not captured ] I thought as soon as the Mind Numb target became tapped during the action (for whatever reason), the action ends immediately (and unsuccessfully). Thus there is no longer an action in which to play action modifiers, so the rest is moot. but i could be wrong. -- salem (replace 'hotmail' with 'yahoo' to email)

[ quoted text not captured ] No, you can still block the action. If it reaches resolution without any valid targets, though, the action fails. witness1

Yes, since Francois has obf, so could have played the Elder Impersonation (and has PRE, so could have attempted the Mind Numb). >> 2) Instead, Jackie plays superior Babble to untap random minion, which >> taps her and makes her an invalid target for Mind Numb. No. Mask: "usable by a ... vampire ... who *is* capable of performing the action." The action is illegal (target is not valid), so no minion is capable of performing it. So no minion can Mask it.

Is the following "trick" legal, then : - Suzanne (1 blood) attempts to mind numb Jackie. - She stealth through using elder impersonation. - Suzanne's controller asks for any other block attempt. - All players decline the block, since they expect the action to fizzle. - Then Francois masks the action after blocks are declined and before the resolution (ensuring the action will not fizzle and will not be blocked since all blocks have been declined) ? Thank you again, François

[ quoted text not captured ] At a guess I would say no, because asking for any other block attempts passes the impulse, and as no block attempts are declared, there is now no longer a window for action modifiers as the action immediately moves to action resolution... I think...

[ quoted text not captured ] You can play action modifiers after blocks are declined. See also Conditioning. There's nothing wrong with this play. Similarly, if Smudge is bleeding, Arika can Mask in after blocks are declined and then play Conditioning. witness1
