Let's say that I control Watenda, and my predator has played a Chiram's Hold on me, targeting "Lucky Blow". Watenda is in combat. Watenda's opponent (who does not have a Chiram's Hold) strikes "Lucky Blow". Watenda wishes to cancel the card. Does he have to pay 1? Relevant text from Chiram's Hold: "The chosen combat card costs that Methuselah's vampires an additional blood" Relevant text from Watenda: "Watenda can cancel the effect of a combat card the opposing minion plays by burning an amount of blood equal to the blood or pool cost of the card."

[ quoted text not captured ] Yes. The cost of the card (the Lucky Blow played by one of "that Methuselah's vampires") is 1 blood. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Links to V:TES news, rules, cards, utilities, and tournament calendar: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/

The Lucky Blow is not being played by one of "that Methuselah's vampires". The question was: I control Watenda. My predator has played Chiram's Hold on Lucky Blow from my own ash heap. My prey has no Chiram's Hold played on him. My prey controls Jimmy Dunn. Jimmy Dunn is in combat with Watenda. Jimmy Dunn chooses to strike Lucky Blow. Watenda chooses to cancel the Lucky Blow. The Lucky Blow costs Jimmy Dunn no blood. But, it "costs [my] vampires an additional blood." Does Watenda have to pay? Or does it only cost when my vampires are *playing* the card?

A Lucky Blow that costs zero (contrary to me previous reading of the question). Sorry for getting that backwards. > Watenda chooses to cancel the Lucky Blow. > The Lucky Blow costs Jimmy Dunn no blood. > But, it "costs [my] vampires an additional blood." It would, but the Lucky Blow in question was not played by one of your vampires. > Does Watenda have to pay? Or does it only cost when my vampires are *playing* > the card? The card costs 0, so Watenda pays zero. If Watenda wanted to play a Lucky Blow, it would cost 1 blood, per Chiram's Hold. But that doesn't affect how much the Luck Blow played by Jimmy Dunn costs, per the previous answer. [ quoted text not captured ]
