Not to umm...throw rocks or anything... but, i'm pretty sure Barbaro's a family name. Well, specifically on account of it being mine. Shouldn't it be Lucchase Barbaro? Chris, Waffle King of Osaka ---what's the translation for, 'did i stutter, motherfucker,' again?

Barbaro is a name: both in Spanish and Italian. In fact it's more common her femenine form: Barbara (e.g., Bárbara Rodríguez) Greetings, Damnans

It's your family name, so it could only be a family name, eh? Yeah, and Scott's a family name, so I guess I'd have to change my name (Right, Fred?). And McCabe, the newbie who joined us for a demo of VTES on Monday, using one of her ancestor's family name as her given name, tsk tsk. And I'll write Harrison Ford to ask him to stop, too. And Barbaro Garbey, the baseball player (he played back in the '80s) -- someone should ask him to stop as well (I would, but I don't have his address). And Barbaro Teuntor Garcia, the trumpet player, too. (And don't get me started on Giovanni.) </blocksmilie> -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. 'Barbarossa' means 'red beard' afaik. It would seem fairly likely that 'Barbaro' shares the same root - 'barbarians' would be the ones with long, unkept beards. ...but checking on that reveals it as just a coincidence, 'Barbaro' and 'Barba' have unrelated origins. The root for the term "barbaro", both in spanish and italian, comes from ancient greek. AFAIK it was the term used by the city states to determine those tribes who came from the north. > Flux

[ quoted text not captured ] "Barbaro" and "barba" also exist in portuguese. "Barbaro" was applied to any 'stranger' (meaning strange language and customs), for the Romans that would mean mostly the nordic tribes. According to several sources on the web, it's origin is 'bar-bar', a sound mocking the foreigners' attempts to speak the native language. Flux
