Imagine Ebenezer R. is attacked by Muddled Vampire Hunter. Ebenezer
instantly plays Flesh of Marble at inferior. M.V.Hunter then strikes with
a Wooden Stake, which would normally inflict 1 normal and 3 aggravated
damage. What happens, A or B?
A) The agg damage cannot be prevented by inferior Flesh of Marble, so
Ebenezer takes 3 aggravated and goes into torpor.
or....
B) Damage from Wooden Stake is not considered aggravated until it is
determined that more than one point of damage will be actually inflicted.
Since damage inflicted is reduced to 1 (by Flesh of Marble), none of the
damage can therefore be considered aggravated. Ebenezer takes 1 normal
damage and proceeds to eviscerate M.V.Hunter.
I note parenthetically that the artwork tends to support position B, but
perhaps thats just because Flesh of Marble works fine against "Stake" from
the Jyhad set.

A is correct.

No, Wooden Stake just says, "If more than 1 damage is inflicted..." It
doesn't require the damage to be *successfully* inflicted.

Neither does Pulled Fangs (Jyhad text): "Usable by a minion who inflicts
more damage at close range than the victem vampire."
It does not say "*successfully* inflicts" but that is what it is
universally understood to mean.
Your answer is, for all I know, correct, but your argument does not
convince.

But there's an official clarification for Pulled Fangs:
Pulled Fangs - Combat
* Counts up damage successfully inflicted during the round
by the minions (retainers, etc. don't count). :C02:

B is correct. "Inflicted" refers to damage that is not prevented.

Oops. So "successfully" in cards that say "successfully inflicted" is just
reminder text, then?
