Fourteen Methuselahs gathered in Houston, Texas for a weekend of
V:TES, beer, tequila, and V:TES. Two tournaments were played, one
sanctioned constructed, and the other sanctioned draft. Much fun was
had by all, and those involved may post more as time permits.

How do you survive in your playgroup with *NO* blood dolls? I just can't
figure! Your playgroup is not competitive.
If you take a single bleed for 4 (which can happen in the first few turns
before any other vamp is out) or damages from a vote, then you will never
recover. Except maybe in you highly competitive playgroup.
Yeah you must be right, I never played this damn game in the first place.
I'm just here to bug people and tell them how lame their decks are.
That's great. Show everyone how ridiculous you are. Continue to play in
your 5 year-old-friendly environmment, where no one bleeds you for 6 and no
one ever plays fortitude.
GOD, I just LOVE this newsgroup! ;D

Which playgroup are you referring to, Kevin? The tourney was in Houston,
Robyn's in Atlanta, many Austinites were there too. And Robyn's pretty damn
competitive.
Of course, the Houston metagame is grapple-blur beatdown of your prey and
then get ousted after crippling them, from my experience. Which to me would
be anti-competitive. Different from not competitive.

Hey Robyn,
I'm curious about three votes that you didn't include: PTO, Political
Stranglehold, and Reigns of Power. If you considered these, I would
enjoy hearing your thoughts on why you chose to skip them.
And with all the big vamps, I was surprised to see no Info Highway,
Zillah's Valley, or Dreams. How frequently did you get out more than
2 vamps?
It looks like you play against weenie decks a lot! I can imagine
that you beat up on the weenies a lot, and then switch places with
their predator and get the VP.
Congrats on the win - it's a cool deck!
Ira
P.S. Kevin, when you mentioned the lack of blood dolls, were you just
joking, or did you fail to see the 7 minion taps?! In this sort of
deck, I certainly agree with Robyn that minion taps are much better
than blood dolls.

There *was* an ;D at the end of the post.
If that wasn't enough for people to "get" the point, by remembering Reyda's
humorfest last October, then fine. But, see, while Ira *ASKED* me what I
meant, several people jumped the shark and started ranting without even
knowing what the hell they were ranting about, and Kyle just acted like an
asshole.

I fail to see how "Read the newsgroup sometime. If you pay attention,
you'll understand the humor" is denigrating, but I'll accept your
point-of-view that someone may take it that way, as you just did. Oh well.
Now Kyle, I *did* mean to be dengrating to him, since he deserved it.

Even if you read the newsgroup from time to time, you may not be interested
in reading *all of it*.
Besides it, mimicking other people maybe fun if you understand what thos
other people said in the first place. I didin't find anything funny in the
thread, since you talk about lack of blood dools whereas Robyn's deck has
massive pool gain in other forms (yeah minion tap for 10 is massive for me).
Next time, try to use quotations when they are appropriate, since you loose
much of the humor; plus other people can't even laugh with you =)

Gee Kevin, I'm really glad that you're back... it's so much fun to
read your posts. You call people names, use a bunch of four-letter
words, and insult people you don't know. Thanks for sharing...

PS That's all sarcasm for anyone that doesn't know english or missed
the implied meaning.
BTW - I did smile a bit after first reading your original post.
However, it WAS a bit confusing (maybe a few more smiley faces would
help...). AND, then you lost all of your "style points" when you
started slaming other people. Is all that really necessary? Maybe I
should ask how old you are... that might explain a few things. ;o)

I'm glad to hear that everyone had a good time. I keep getting
e-mails from people that were happy with how it all turned out... Did
that have anything to do with the jagermeister, tequila, rum, and
beer??? :o)
I had a great time during the tournaments ...despite feeling a little
fuzzy in the head from the night before. Maybe next year we can just
stay up from Friday night through Sunday and skip those silly little
naps we took. ;o)
The tournament was pretty challenging because every table had players
that have been around the VTES scene for quite a while and the decks I
saw were all fairly hardcore. I definitely learned a lot just from
watching what others were doing and how their decks ran. It was like
watching VTES 101. :o)
I was a bit surprised that there wasn't as much combat as some of our
other events. Maybe our meta-game is shifting away from combat?
...but now we have the Black Hand set to work with... (rubs hands
together while attempting an evil laugh).
The draft turned out much better than any other draft I've been in. I
really like the fact that we used preconstructed decks and then just
added a few cards to it. It was soooo much faster than drafting
everything. And splitting it up over two days was also really cool.
That way we were able to do a fairly quick draft one night, followed
by pick-up games and socializing, and then were ready to settle into
the draft tournament the next day. I recommend something like that
for all our future draft events (when the situation allows for it).
Chad Brinkley won the draft event, right? What deck was he playing?
And I want to thank Cherryholmes, David, Robyn, Jeff, and Norm for
taking the time to fly/drive across the country for a Houston event.
Having you guys there really made it just that much better! I hope it
was all worth it and that we'll see you all again sometime soon. :o)
...If only we could have used some of those wacky Black Hand cards
that are now legal in tournaments. I can't wait for the next one!
Norm - It's pretty funny that we both brought our entire collection
and then got to involved with everything else and forgot to do any
trading with one another. Doh! Next time we'll trade BEFORE the
tequila. ;o)
Cheers,
Howard
PS I'd love to hear more about what you all thought of the event and
any interesting stories or comments you may have. What was that
"tequila game" all about? Is that why there was so much hugging and
"I LOVE you guys!" going around late night? ...and what happened in
the hot tub after I left?!?

Hmmmm, I think I've heard something about that lesson before. I don't
think it was restricted to particular sets of initials, though. ;-)

Yeah, I know. I even knew it was a stupid thing to do at the time, and I
said "You know, Jeff, this is a really dumb thing to do. But you haven't
broken a deal with me before, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt
this time." And he knifed me. He knifed me for his 1 VP before my prey,
who I was tapping out trying to trim back went on to win the table. I
think, although he never said so explicitly, that Jeff figured Ethan was
going to win that table regardless, so he took the VP he could get. Good
play on his part, and no hard feelings.
Er, I mean.... Dealbreaker! He's tricksy! We hates him!

Lots of good games. the "tequila game" happened late saturday when me and
norm were in a 4 player. evertime i got the
edge we took a shot. ended up taking 6-7 shots each in what seemed like no
time at all. cuervo never went down smoother.
surprisingly ethan didn't try to cuddle, maybe cuz i came to bed drunk
laughing, and i farted, he gets pissy. as far as the
hot tub goes.....i'm really pretty kinda sure i didn't do anything stupid...

Hey, Ira....!
It's a tool box deck that suits my play style. It was my homage to a
Lasombra-Jeff, Steve-Bucy-type monster-vampire deck.
PTO, is over the top in this deck. Lacks subtleness....something. I
don't want that kind of attention. The Ancilla/AnarchU are there to
help keep rounds from timing out and appeal to greed. For the same
reason (time outs) Political Stranglehold Hold is not included.
I'd be interested to know if you or someone else finds Toreador
GrandBall a liability. Although I owe some VP's, to the card - I wind
up taking the action to remove it myself a good bit of the time.
I'm slow on the influence, but again, I don't want to attract a lot of
attention.

<raises tremulous talon> i've done that, though not on this particular
occasion. It's a standard ploy for the Deck of Thin Cheese [thanks to
Matt Stockton for the moniker].

That was beer? I couldn't taste anything after my mutli-night binge of
jaeger, rum, and tequila. I believe the secret word for the weekend was
"Moderation", and did we keep it secret.

I felt like I was playing VTES 911. :)

It really made deck tweaking easier.

That was so much fun. Now if we can have another in March then that would
be awesome!

I needed the excercise of hauling too many cards around 3 different hotel

I don't remember much about the tequila game except that Oscar kept handing
me shots and saying "I love this guy". I don't think I could talk at that
point and thinking had stopped hours before. There was a lot of emotion in
the air. I think it was Jeff's cologne that had some effect. :) I don't
know anything about the hottub except I didn't wake up there.
