It was meant to have 4 Quicken Sight, but I guess I accidentally put in an extra. 5 is too many. The 5th should be Enhanced Senses or something. Also, some of the cards in the deck (like Familial Bond) are junk, but I wanted to try everything new. It was originally intended to have Aye, but they didn't make the cut. I played this untested in the US Championship and had a very Goldilocks experience. The first table was too stealthy and I jammed on combat. The second one was too fighty and I couldn't keep out of torpor. The third table was just right and I won easily. Hugh borrowed the deck for the Sunday tournament and made the final where he won basically by being in the best shape after the table collapsed (a fine way to win). His only comment to me was the deck could use a couple of Camera Phones. Probably a good plan. Powerbase: Luanda is quite good. It's maybe the only thing here that makes this deck something other than a poor Toreador gun deck without the bleed potential. [ quoted text not captured ] That is correct. My error. Robyn, this doesn't affect any points as far as I can see so I don't think it is necessary to reinput the results. LSJ, why did the Archon let me enter 2-0-0.5-0-0.5 without having a 'pending' degisnation? [ quoted text not captured ]

No reason to expect it to suddenly change to "pending" as data is added. It does, however, show no GW until all the data is in. So with 2-0-.5-0-.5, it should still fail to indicate a GW. It never occurred to me that the final would need a pending designation. The pending indicators are in the previous rounds since the data collection period in those rounds is usually quite hectic and rushed. Unlike post-final.

[ quoted text not captured ] Looking at this decklist it's clear that Hugh played the shit out of this deck for the win. For the card ratios in here he had to be saving some things for my gun deck in the heads-up late game. Well done. -Merlin

Kevin M.

[ quoted text not captured ] Oh, I agree with it not necessarily needing it, I just thought it'd be nice to have it standardized. That, and I like the 'pending' designator, so I can avoid situations like this. :) [ quoted text not captured ]

I too, use the 9 and 10 cap Settites in my SoL deck, mostly because of Mesu Bedshet, but I find I rarely have the actions to spare for Mesu, and will probably remove it and replace the Settites with IC members. What I find strange is that you do not use Halim Bey. I know he has no presence, for weak-ass combat defense, but you don't use any presence in your deck. Myself, I use 2 or 3 copies of Halim, along with Black Lotus who both have DOM, and 1 each of Abdelsobek and Amenophobis (who has dom, and as a 7 cap works okay as either a mummy or a vampire). I find Halim's special to be invaluable, especially for rushing at stealth, but also for knocking down a prey who overspent with +1 stealth bleeds for 1. The dominate, of course, is good for deflections, and I go with similar combat "defense" as yours - i.e. ignore combat defense and use the mummy's combat package for the vampires if necessary. How come you hate Halim so much? =)

Me too. I had Mesu Bedshet and Summon the Serpent in there, but never had actions for them (and didn't have trouble getting 5 uncontrolled fatties). So, I took them out. Should have moved to 11 caps at the same time. > What I find strange is that you > do not use Halim Bey. The deck is very focused on just getting Spell of Life off early. It pops pretty reliably on turn 6-8. I really don't want doubles in the crypt because I want 2 early (small) actors and 5 more, distinct, large, uncontrolled vampires ready turn 6. So, Halim didn't make the cut because he's a 6-cap with obf. I suppose he might still be better than Abdelsobek. I'm not really tempted to include dom bounce. Defense is allies block/ rush, not spending much pool on minions, and then smashing my predator (as needed) when the mummies show up. -Ben Swainbank

Superior obf would be nice, of course. > I'm not really tempted to include dom bounce. Defense is allies block/ > rush, not spending much pool on minions, and then smashing my predator > (as needed) when the mummies show up. > Yeah, see, I find that even *with* bounce, even when I *don't* miss a turn with the Spells (which, I occasionally do with 10 of them in a 60- card deck, which sucks... should probably at least bump it up to 11), I still find myself teetering on being ousted by the time I actually get mummies. You can't get Mummies until turn 6 or 7 (and you only get them on turn 6 if you go 3rd and have a 3-cap or 4th/5th and have a 4-cap, seems like 50/50 shot at best, assuming you don't miss a turn with Spells). By turn 7, if predator is playing heavy bleed, I would expect to have been bled for like 20 pool. At least 3/turn starting on turn 3, and then up to 6/turn (or more) after that. Of course, even more likely than that is my Settites being dunked before they can do anything useful, and deflections certainly won't help with that.... So, yeah... I dunno, maybe different environment, or maybe the fact that you have more *other* allies and an extra Unmasking is good enough for defense? (I currently use 1 Unmasking, 1 Dragonbound, and I *think* there might be a Breaking the Code in there, along with a Fortschritt Library.) Either way, while it looks like you made some different decisions than I did in building my version, I guess I'm still not entirely enlightened on what makes it consistent enough to win a pretty good- sized tournament. I might just have to try playing your version and seeing if it just flows better than mine.

[ quoted text not captured ] I have a similar SoL deck with the crypt half small setites/half 11 caps. I modified the deck to include Halim Bey, but it slowed the deck down. Taking an extra turn to influence him out and then instead of recruiting allies he sat up to flick. I can see that it could work with Halim Bey, but you would have to play the deck a bit differently.
