So I've seen a few posts that supposedly clarify the way Betrayal is supposed to work, and I've read the 'explanations' in the various errata and rules listings, but none of them actually make the card's function plain to me. Could someone post a concrete example of how the card functions, i.e. player A has vamps 1-3 in play and 4-6 uncontrolled, player B has vamps a-d in play and e-g uncontrolled, which of 1-6 has to equal a-g for player A to play the card, what does A announce when he plays it, and what exactly does B have to do to uncover and remove the betrayal? [ quoted text not captured ] At least one of vampires 4-6 has to be the same as one of vampires a-d for player A to play betrayer "against" player B. For example(s): 1) vamp 4 is the same as vamp a. Player A plays betrayer and says "Player B, one of your vampires is a betrayer." (noting to herself that vamp a is the one that allows her to play the card at all). Player B would then, after losing one pool, choose to pay one pool to attempt to guess the betrayer. If she guesses that vamp a is the betrayer (by name), then the Betrayer card is burned. 2) vamp 4 and vamp 5 are the same as vamp a. Everything plays as in example 1) above. 3) vamp 4 is the same as vamp a and vamp 5 is the same as vamp b. Player A plays betrayer and says "Player B, one of your vampires is a betrayer." (noting to herself that vamp a is the one that allows her to play the card at all *or* noting that vamp b is the one that allows her to play the card). Player B would then, after losing one pool, choose to pay one pool to attempt to guess the betrayer. If she guesses correctly (guessing vamp a if he was the one that player A had noted *or* guessing vamp b if he was instead the one that player A had noted), then the Betrayer card is burned. -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) VTES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. S/he is betraying you, dear B. This means you lose 1 pool each untap as long as this card is in play. You may choose to burn an extra pool during untap to guess the name of the Betryaer. If you guess right, i burn this copy of the betrayer card - NOT the uncontrolled vamp, and NOT any other copies of the Betrayer i put in play." Though not mandated by the rules, it is normal to put the Betryaer on the uncontrolled copy of the vamp to keep track of its name. [ quoted text not captured ]
