The Admonitions Put this card in play. Tap to discard one card if you control a ready Sabbat vampire. Tap to draw two cards if you control a ready Black Hand vampire. During your discard phase, control of The Admonitions passes counter-clockwise until it is controlled by a Methuselah who controls a ready Sabbat vampire (or is burned if there are none). Choice question: "Tap to discard one card if you control a ready Sabbat vampire." "Tap to draw two cards if you control a ready Black Hand vampire." If I control Blackhorse Tanner, who is both Sabbat and Black Hand, can I choose which of the 2 effects I may trigger? Timing question: Most effects which cause the user to draw extra cards also tell the user when to discard them: Fragment of the Book of Nod: "Tap to draw 2 cards from your library. Discard down to your hand size." Dreams of the Sphinx: Tap this card to draw two cards and increase your hand size by two cards until the end of the current turn. Aura Reading: Your hand size is increased by 2 cards for the remainder of this combat. Discard down to your hand size at the end of combat. The Admonitions simply says: "Tap to draw two cards" ...so I assume my hand size is +2 for as long as I control The Admonitions. Is this correct? Eg 1) It's a 2-player game, both of us have 7-card hands. Bob plays The Admonitions but doesn't tap it. During his discard phase, I get The Admonitions, and "Tap to draw two cards" immediately, putting me on 9 cards. A few seconds later, in my untap phase, I again "Tap to draw two cards", and thus I have an 11-card hand until my discard phase. Eg 2) It's a 2-player game, both of us have 7-card hands. Bob has no Sabbat in play. I play The Admonitions, and "Tap to draw two cards" immediately, putting me on 9 cards. During my discard phase, control of The Admonitions passes counter-clockwise to Bob, forcing me to drop to 7 cards, and then, still in my discard phase, control passes back to me. Eg 3) It's a 2-player game. Bob has no Sabbat in play. I play The Admonitions, and leave it untapped. During my discard phase, control of The Admonitions passes counter-clockwise to Bob, and then, still in my discard phase, control passes back to me. I tap it, putting me on 9 cards during Bob's turn. When it gets back to my turn, I tap the Admonitions immediately, giving me 11 cards to use during my turn.

Is this correct? No. It doesn't change your hand size. Section 1.6.1.2 of the rules: "The number of cards in your hand should always match your hand size (less any cards you are not replacing until later). Whenever they don't match (when an effect changes your hand size or adds or removes cards from your hand, for example), immediately discard down to or draw up to your hand size." Note that the text you quote for Dreams also doesn't remind you to discard. See also The Barrens. > Eg 1) It's a 2-player game, both of us have 7-card hands. You immediately discard down to your hand size. And again on your own untap phase.

Cool. Thanks for pointing this out. > > Note that the text you quote for Dreams also doesn't remind you to discard. Um... except for the words "until the end of the current turn", I agree completely. > > See also The Barrens. Good example. > > Eg 1) It's a 2-player game, both of us have 7-card hands. Exactly. It increases your hand size ... And reminds you to draw 2 cards. ... until the end of your turn. But doesn't remind you to discard 2 cards.
