Uses for Some Tremere Cards

There are some Tremere cards which don't exactly seem to be that useful to me. I was wondering if anyone had any variable uses for the following cards: Chantry: Although this can save a rescue from torpor action, it can only be used on Tremere and can only be used during the Master phase. Unless you're playing a Burst of Sunlight deck or something and can torporized during your predator's turn, it would seem you would have lots of problems fending off potential diablierists (sp). Unless Blood Hunts are common and effective, it seems like your torpored vamps would be destroyed before you could use the Chantry. Charnas the Imp: This card also seems fairly useless. It can obviously do a good job in helping to take down a powerful opposing vampire, but after that vamp is down, you'll probably have Charnas on your own minions. Of course in a Cryptic Mission deck, you can just easily kill Charnas off and play another one, but he seems to be more of a problem overall than a benefit. BTW: I'm fairly familiar with Vampire: The Masquerade and the Tremere clan -- but what's an "imp?" I know what mummies, werewolves, homonculus' (actually they should be a Tremere card, not a Protean one), gargoyles, and even dauntains are, but I've never heard of an "imp!" Tremere Convocation: Actually, I already know this card is incredibly useful, but I just wanted to know more uses for it. Obviously, allowing vamps with inferior to play superior combat is a MAJOR benefit, allowing you to dispense with a lot of skill cards. But how about the +1 stealth? Cryptic Mission, Infernal Familiar, Magic of the Smith, Seeds of Corruption, and Rutor's Hand are the only cases when this would actually help. The first four don't seem to be very common in decks unless the decks focus on those cards. And the +1 is fairly light, definitely not that helpful in getting past even light-intercept decks. Wasserschloss Anif, Austria: First question, exactly what is Wasserschloss? Tried looking it up and didn't find anything. Is it a significant location or something? Unique location. During your master phase, you may move 1 blood from any Tremere you control to this card. During your influence phase, you may tap this card to move all counters on this card to a Tremere in your inactive region. This card may be burned by any minion as a (D) action; Malkavians get +1 stealth when attempting that action. If this card is burned, all of the blood on it is lost. I could be misinterpreting it, but it looks like a water down version of Arcane Library. It still costs 2 pool, but in order to use it, it requires constant blood from your vampires. I'm interpreting it as being able to move only 1 blood per turn from 1 vampire. Is that right? In addition, this card can be burned. It would seem as if it should have more benefits for all the flaws. I'm guessing that you can move 1 blood from each Tremere you have? Spirit Summoning Chamber (okay, it's Tremere Anti's but...): Actually this card was discussed on this board a while ago. Not only is it useful in getting a quick combat card, but the fact that you *show* everyone else your card can seriously deter other players from messing with you, even if you don't plan on using it. It only costs a blood from a Tremere Anti so that doesn't seem that bad. But what I see as a major problem is that, like all cards where you search your library, you end up needing to discard a card (since you exceed the hand limit). Thus using this card a lot seems to really help deplete your library. So does this become a problem often? And do you use this card frequently, or only when you *need* a particular combat or other Thaumaturgy card? Thanks for any comments and responses. Halcyan 2

I don't know about where you play, but Blood Hunts are *always* called. And 8 times out of 10, they pass. That risk is enough most times to let the Chantry do its stuff. Since it's free, it might be worth it in some decks. > > Charnas the Imp: This card also seems fairly useless. I don't know if its useful, but I sure hate it when someone brings it out. In our group, people start bargaining hard with the Tremere player to not have it on their minion. > > Tremere Convocation: [SNIP, agree with most of your comments] > > Wasserschloss Anif, Austria: First question, exactly what is Wasserschloss? > Tried looking it up and didn't find anything. As far as I can see, its wallpaper. If it only cost one pool, or multiple vamps could do it, or they took out the can be destroyed clause, then it might be worth it. The only benefit I can see is that it kind of gives you an extra transfer that turn. But that transfer comes at the cost of 2 pool, 1 blood, and is clan-specific. Compare to Info, Arcane, Dreams, or even re-written Tomb, and it seems pretty silly. > Spirit Summoning Chamber (okay, it's Tremere Anti's but...): Actually this card > was discussed on this board a while ago. Then, you don't use it until you get a second one of that card into your hand. Use the first gnarly card. The other Meths breathe a sigh of relief and take action. Then you surprise them with the second copy. But really, is it that useful? I don't think so. And certainly not worth 2 pool. But I guess it sort of matches Magic of the Smith - i.e. the Tremere! can conjure up any thing given the right magic. > > Thanks for any comments and responses. > > Halcyan 2 Chris -- NEW e-mail address: shr...@alumni.williams.edu Chris Shorb, Monger of stuff Tammy Martin, Queen of the Eastern Marches, and damn good mom Alexander Shorb, little guy who could Shameless plug: <http://www.graphicnovels.com/>

There are many reasons you may never have to face such an eventuality; yet Charnas is almost always useful when he comes up. My only question about his is whether you might choose to discard him if you discover both your prey and preditor are running pure weenie decks. Fred

Is it a significant location or > something? Hehe. :) Anif is a town in Salzburg, which is a federal state in Austria, Europe. And a Wasserschloss is a beautiful palace, surrounded by water, e.g. in the middle of a small lake. Btw, Wasserschloss Anif looks (almost) exactly like the picture on the card, though it's much, much more beautiful. :) (Guess what, I live in Austria. :) ) Anif is not a very important town, but the Wasserschloss once belonged to one of the arch-dukes of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. My Tremere Rush deck puts numerous copies of the Chantry in, because occasionally my guys DO visit Mr. Torpor, just through going through 3 rounds of Weather Control at superior. The crypt averages a 3-cap, so diablerie of a 3-cap is NOT a tragedy in and of itself - I just haul out a duplicate, and I usually have one handy. But also, to answer your question, Diablerie Bad. My grand-predator is usually an ally here, because he would usually LOVE to see one of his prey's vamps burned for free - and there are often enough table votes to make it happen. In general, ANY time we can call a bloodhunt, we do it and pass it - that way, we can get concessions and favors from the diabolist for NOT voting to burn. =) If no favors are forthcoming... well... =) >Charnas the Imp: This card also seems fairly useless. An imp is a minor demon, usually one that performs a small service. (Such as one damage per untap.) Also note that the damage Charnas does is not aggravated - the minion he is on will go to torpor, and remain there. Charnas only is passed on if the minion he is on is BURNED, which makes him pretty damned amusing. =) And yes, you can just Cryptic Mission him once he's in torpor and hand him off elsewhere. =) >Tremere Convocation: Actually, I already know this card is incredibly useful, >but I just wanted to know more uses for it. Cryptic Mission at +2 stealth is pretty damn cool when you have a bunch of Tremere weenies - it stops KRCG, Sport Bike, and Rumor Mill intercept cold early on, since you won't have two of them out yet. And your weenies get to reload, so Blood Doll away. =) >Wasserschloss Anif, Austria: First question, exactly what is Wasserschloss? >Tried looking it up and didn't find anything. It looks like 1 blood from 1 vampire to me, just from the phrasing. It would be a lot nicer if it were 1 from any, so that during master phases you could pile on from 4 vampires twice and get out a cool 8-cap. >Spirit Summoning Chamber (okay, it's Tremere Anti's but...): Actually this card >was discussed on this board a while ago. If you don't have a suitable discard, you probably don't need to use the Chamber... =) Biggest problem I see with it is that you need Tremere Antitribu, who just don't have the weenie THA to make decks especially feasible. They have some great bigger vamps (lots of DOM/THA/AUS all over the place) but they're 6-8 caps. Otherwise, sure, use it lots. Especially right before Rushing someone. =) -- Derek Deafness never kept composers from hearing the music. It only stopped them hearing the distractions.

No, just one blood from one of your Tremere. The card follows the "During phase X, do Y" phrasing, which has been ruled to limit Y to once per phase X [LSJ 25-JUN-1997] -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) V:TES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. Firstly, Blood Hunt is ALWAYS common and successful for most people. Hey, if you can toast two vampires in one action, why not? However, I remember once I had a Tremere deck (I think I called it "Join the Club") that used Chantry, Arcane Library, Wasserschloss Anif, Govern the Unaligned, and the Soul Gem (plus a couple of Embraces) to pull lots of vampires out and keep them out. Everyone quickly runs out of blood, but that's okay... you can still keep them around to do what you need. I'd typically have on the order of seven acting vampires during my turn, and only 2-3 of them had capacities of 4 or below... Wasserschloss Anif is wallpaper for the most part. It's only really useful as a second Arcane Library; then it's okay. John Baker
