Contemplating this brings up some interesting questions, funny ones and some more serious ones... FIrst off, will I still be playing VTES 10 years from now? WIll the US economy be capable of supporting WW? Can LSJ keep designing new library cards for another 8 expansions without running into problems? WHat group will we be at by then? HOw long is LSJs contract with WW? Does WW even plan to keep VTES around that long? Could VTES become a type tournament game? (either grouping umber for library cards or say sets up to whatever are legal in one type of tournament, etc...) How will WW keep up sales for VTES, what advertising can they do, or mechanic changes, for soon those who are switching to VTR will soon forget VTES... (course some say that doesn't matter, cause they got into VTES before they knew about VTM...) You know... funny quetsions abound whilst thinking about this... ~screaming Vermillian

Yes. > FIrst off, will I still be playing VTES 10 years from now? Very good question. Even one year from now is future fiction for me at the moment. > WIll the US economy be capable of supporting WW? LOL. > Can LSJ keep designing new library cards for another 8 expansions > without running into problems? 10 years is 120 months. There is a new extension, currently, every 9 months. So, if the rate doesn't change, it's 13+ extensions. > WHat group will we be at by then? > > HOw long is LSJs contract with WW? > > Does WW even plan to keep VTES around that long? Can such a thing be planned such in advance ? Has any CCG beyond Magic lasted as long as VTES ? Really, VTES isn't Magic (luckily), and I have trouble imagining such a long commercial lifespan for it. It's more likely that people would keep on playing it with the cards they have for years after, as they did in the "Dark Years", and as Blood Blowl (not a CCG) players do. > Could VTES become a type tournament game? (either grouping umber for > library cards or say sets up to whatever are legal in one type of > tournament, etc...) Allow me to vomit at the thought... BLEEEURRARGH. Thank you. > How will WW keep up sales for VTES, what advertising can they do, or > mechanic changes, for soon those who are switching to VTR will soon > forget VTES... I think it'll just have to be considered another thing, completely. After all, Magic has no supporting RPG or fiction (nothing worth anything anyway). > (course some say that doesn't matter, cause they got into VTES before > they knew about VTM...) > > You know... funny quetsions abound whilst thinking about this... Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Chills, Orpheus

Luckily, I have just visited the future. Let me tell you about it > FIrst off, will I still be playing VTES 10 years from now? Yes, it will be the only game played at the casinos on Mars > WIll the US economy be capable of supporting WW? The concept of national economies will be fogotten and only realms of influence will remain. White Wolf will be its own realm. > Can LSJ keep designing new library cards for another 8 expansions > without running into problems? LSJ will be first person to make the jump from the physical to the digital as an Artificial Intellegence. He will be designing set forever, but still won't be able to answer your questions any faster than he does now. > WHat group will we be at by then? Group -6. LSJ begins creating the Dark Age as negative groups alternating from positive to negative. Group 0 consists of crypt cards of LSJ's and Steve Wieck's combined 50 children. > HOw long is LSJs contract with WW? Contracts are irrelavent in the future. > Does WW even plan to keep VTES around that long? They have no choice after the video tape of the Achilli-Wieck incident is used as blackmail to keep the presses rolling. > Could VTES become a type tournament game? (either grouping umber for > library cards or say sets up to whatever are legal in one type of > tournament, etc...) No > How will WW keep up sales for VTES, what advertising can they do, or > mechanic changes, for soon those who are switching to VTR will soon > forget VTES... Come on, Scott, we all know you're in there for life, and maybe more if they ask me. Didn't you read the smaller lines before signing in your blood ?! Orpheus

By 'developer', do you mean something different from 'designer' (yourself and Robert Goudie) or 'project coordinator' (Steve Wieck)? No developer is listed in the current rulebook or on the website (that I can see). Are you considered the V:tES developer? If you are, then the sentence you wrote above worries me. Given the fantastic job you've been doing for years, I hope you stick around for as long as possible. I can't imagine the acronym V:tES without the acronym LSJ attached. Cheers, WES

Seriously, the intersting question is, how long can VTES survive with a RPG background that is no longer supported? Thats the big difference, even in the long dead period under WotC there was still the RPG that made VTES the actual card game for the WoD. (Example: At my last tournament there was a young guy who wanted to learn VTES, because he had played the computer game Bloodlines and found it kewl. That will not happen in 10 years.)

I meant lead designer. I'm fairly incautious with those terms. > No developer is listed in the current rulebook or on the website (that I can > see). Are you considered the V:tES developer? So when ARE you going to tell everyone you're stepping down after the next set? Josh is getting impatient, you know; he wants his crack at stuff too... while I can't say I blame him for being eager, I wonder if he realizes what he's getting into, yanno? Should be amusing. [ quoted text not captured ] Right. Granted it might 10 years from now, but as time goes on, the probabilit will get smaller and smaller. This is what had me thinking about potentially incorporating VtRequiem into VTES... but that's just crazy talk, right? (I relinquish all rights to the crap I say, blah blah)

One of the long-term options for this is the yet unrealized potential of the Storyline events (both the standard ones and the Build Your Own Storyline type). I've also got a few ideas in the works that should provide some additional quality source materials for future development. [ quoted text not captured ] There are many people that play VtES with no connection to VtM. Many that started playing when knowing nothing about VtM. There are many people that play the game because the mechanics of the game are that good. Search the newsgroup for Dog Poo: The Eternal Struggle and you'll see what I mean. On the other hand, VtM can be a useful tool for getting more people into the game. However, I'm confident people new to VR that learn White Wolf has this card game based on Vampires, but structured a little differently than VR could still find VtES appealing. Later, ~Rehlow
