VTES card text: "Only usable if at least one card is contested. For each contested card, choose the Methuselah you want to yield. Successful [referendum] means that all the chosen Methuselahs yield <as you selected>." Jyhad card text: "Choose who among those with contested cards in play should get each card. Successful [referendum] means all other Methuselahs must immediately burn the contested cards." The way the most recent printing is worded, it sounds like you'd only be able to force one person to yield for each card being contested - ie if there were three or more people contesting a single card, you could make one of them yield, but not all but one. The Jyhad version, on the other hand, has you choose the one Methuselah who doesn't yield, rather than the one who does. Which way should it be played? Thanks, Josh hypothetical-question-asking prince of washington dc

Yielding happens during the untap phase. The card text does not specify a change to this. So... Play order: A-B-C B and C are contesting a card. Player A selects player C to yield. The card is still contested for the remainder of player A's turn and for player B's turn. On player C's turn, he yields as required. Is player B required to pay because the card is still contested on his turn? If player C doesn't pay (i.e. he yields), is player C still required to yield? CAN player C yield (since the card is no longer contested)? [snip] >> The Jyhad version, on the other hand, has you choose the one >> Methuselah who doesn't yield, rather than the one who does. Not "the chosen Methuselahs must yield on their next untap phases." > Play order: A-B-C > > B and C are contesting a card. Player A selects player C to > yield. B regains control on his untap. [ quoted text not captured ]

It also sounds like: "for *each* contested card" Not pair or contest by title. Which makes it sound like if I have a barrens, and you have a barrens that there are 2 contested cards. And for EACH of those 2 I choose who I want to yield. Meaning I could make them both yeild. Also, does this yeild happen right away? or at the start of their turn? Aaron

No. The Barrens is the contested card (singular) in that context. > Also, does this yeild happen right away? or at the start of their > turn? Immediately, by card text. [ quoted text not captured ]

Furthermore, if there's a Barrans, a Zoo Hunting Grounds, and Badger all being contested by people, does that mean for EACH of those cards I choose the Methuselah I want to yeild? (You, yeild your zoo and barrans. You, yeild your badger). Just a thought... ~SV
