Howdy, A couple of questions about fortitude (or other) prevention: 1) Are the 'Strike: torpor' effects of cards like Coma and Entombment considered to be damage? I.e. can they be prevented by cards like Skin of Steel or Leather Jackets? I'm guessing yes... 2) What methods _can_ be used to prevent the auto-damage of a Burst of Sunlight, given that the rulings say that you can't use Skin of Steel? Would Skin of Night allow you to convert it to normal damage and prevent the damage at superior? (Does anyone else find it confusing that 'Strike: 1R to all vampires' is only interpreted as a strike to the opposing vampire? I understand the ruling for other cards where the language makes it clear that the auto-damage is a separate side effect, but, man, is the language confusing in this case.) Thanks, Alex Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

They just send the opposing minion to torpor. > 2) What methods _can_ be used to prevent the auto-damage of a Burst of > Sunlight, given that the rulings say that you can't use Skin of Steel? Nowhere (that I can find) does it say that you can't use Skin of Steel. You cannot use Skin of Steel at superior, as it reads "Prevent all damage from opponent's strikes this round." The Burst of Sunlight, I'm assuming is being played by your minion. This minion could use Skin of Steel at inferior to "Prevent all damage from a strike" seeing as how it's your strike. > Would Skin of Night allow you to convert it to normal damage and prevent > the damage at superior? Yes, it certainly would. > (Does anyone else find it confusing that 'Strike: 1R to all vampires' is > only interpreted as a strike to the opposing vampire? Well...it's a strike, but a couple of fortitude cards read as "...prevent damage from an opponent's strike..." rather than "prevent damage from a strike." Yes. Also Skin of Rock and other prevent damage effects that aren't limited to "damage from a strike" can be used. > (Does anyone else find it confusing that 'Strike: 1R to all vampires' is > only interpreted as a strike to the opposing vampire? Consider it to be a ruling on Skin of Steel, etc.: They can prevent all of the damage from the opposing minion' strike. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. This minion could use Skin of Steel at inferior to >"Prevent all damage from a strike" seeing as how it's your strike. from the rulings... "Damage from a strike" only includes damage done to the opposing target. Side effect damage is not counted as "damage from a strike". Therefore, self-inflicted damage from Zip Gun, Grenade, Burst of Sunlight, Body of Sun, etc. is side effect damage and is not preventable by "prevent damage from a strike" effects like Skin of Steel, Leather Jacket, etc. [LSJ 19970108] You can use any 'prevent generic damage' card, however, such as Skin of Rock or Sideslip. >> Would Skin of Night allow you to convert it to normal damage and prevent >> the damage at superior? > >Yes, it certainly would. > >> (Does anyone else find it confusing that 'Strike: 1R to all vampires' is >> only interpreted as a strike to the opposing vampire? I imagine the Skin of Steel confusion caused that particular terminology change. And as far as the confusion on Burst of Sunlight... well, it was printed a long time ago, and people have had a long time to twist the wording as best they can. :) The design team surely knows now to be very narrow and specific when writing things. :) -- Derek Jack-Booted Thug of Atlanta "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." - C.
