So if you are a Ravanos, and the WoN is in play, and you have no blood,
you can't hunt normally but may hunt by stealing a blood from another
Ravanos. Are you compelled to take this action, or can you choose to
not hunt and stay untapped with no blood?
Thanks,
-Peter (who finally owns a WoN. And 'cause it will probably make Fred
laugh, I paid 11 bucks for it on e-bay...)

It's mandatory.
It's funny to watch the 2 ready ravnos with 1 blood between them, being forced
to play "catch".
Furthermore, if WoN is in play, and there's only 1 ready Ravnos, and he's empty,
I think he's "stuck", since there are no legal targets for his hunt.

Cool. Thanks. Yeah, playing that card could 'cause all sorts of
problems...

Heh! Cool - it's now only a short step to emptying your family's
savings account and selling all the furniture right down to and
including the family dog to pay for rare cards.
Buy a dozen Victor Pelletiers just for the privilege of owning them
a few months before they come out in tournament packs. Watch your
children go to school in sandals and cutoff denim shorts. Go
ahead! Oscar doesn't care...

If you are smart (or tricky) you can minimize a lot of the
unpleasantness of killing yourself with WoN when forced to hunt.
For instance, if you end up with 2 empty Ravnos, you can have an empty
Ravnos hunt off of the other empty Ravnos (you will gain zero blood),
but it helps to stop a chain reaction of this Ravnos steals anothers
last blood, forcing that Ravnos to hunt.
Also, Gharston Roland's disadvantage (Gharston cannot act if any minion
has already attempted an action this turn.) can be made into an
advantage. If Gharston and another Ravnos is empty, have the other
Ravnos hunt first. Then Gharston cannot act and stays untapped to
block. He is empty, so a little more fragile, but being tapped could be
worse.
Procurer is great for helping those Ravnos low on blood keep from
feeding off of each other.

PS I think I gave Kevin $15 for WoN at Origins this year. It was my
second WoN (traded for the first) and Kevin was giving me some good
deals earlier, so all in all I felt ok about it, even if it was pricy.

I don't have a WoN deck, but in addition to the usual tricks (HG, Blood
Doll, Life in the City, etc.) isn't Svadharma tailor-made to help with this
situation? Sure, it takes a master slot, but it's free, and it lets an empty
Ravnos hunt off the Svadharmicated Ravnos without preventing the
Svadharmicated one from hunting.

Oh, absolutely. For what it is worth, I got a WoN off ebay for 11 bucks
(plus shipping...), it showed up on Friday, I put it into my weenie
Ravanos Tummy deck, and immediately won the 1st 5 player game I played
with it. 'Cause I got to put the WoN into play and bleed three players
in a row to death with my 6 or 7 Ravanos weenies. I felt dirty :-)

Oh--that is clever. I didn't consider that. Cool! My deck has a lot of
blood gain (like 6 Svaradarma, 8 Life in the City, 4 Patshiv as well as
Fat Ass Masteries and Ravanos Carnivals to pay for Tummies and CHI
cards). So in practice, it didn't really come up. But that is a good
angle.

Ooh! Also solid.

Sure--it is one of those cards that:
A) You probably don't need a lot of, so coughing up the bucks for 1 or
2 isn't that outrageous.
B) Simply playing it often will mean you just win the game.
So I can certainly see the appeal. There aren't many cards like this I
can think of, though. Thankfully.

Oh, absolutely. Having a pile of Svadharma and Life in the Cities is a
good idea in general in this kind of deck (if you are using WoN,
presumably, you are also using Tumnimos and Embrace, and you need to
pay for those), and so you probably have them available anyway.

What about Immortal Grapples, back in the day when they were rare? What
did you give for them back then, Peter? :D

Heh. I don't think I ever paid more than a couple bucks for any
Immortal Grapples back in the day. When I started amassing them, it was
before anyone knew they were good, so I got my first 10-12 just by
swapping other dubious cards. I probably picked up a couple here and
there for a buck or two from dealers at Origins. And then they became
uncommon, although still not that easy to find. But still, I can't
remember ever paying more than two bucks for a single IG.
